history
In 1932, an airfield with a grass runway was founded under the name Welschap .
During World War II , the airport Eindhoven was from 1940 to 1944 by the Air Force of the Armed Forces occupied.
In the 1980s, part of the airfield was handed over to civil traffic and then converted for civil aviation. This project was completed in 2005 with the commissioning of the new dispatch hall. By the way, civil traffic uses military traffic control, fire brigade and other auxiliary services.
Civil use
Eindhoven Airport is 51% owned by the Schiphol Group . The city of Eindhoven and the province of Noord-Brabant each have a share of 24.5%.
Eindhoven is mainly served by low-cost and charter airlines. Ryanair , Wizz Air and Transavia are the most important airlines and fly from here to numerous European cities and holiday destinations. In addition, there are other airlines and destinations seasonally. Long-haul flights are not offered.
Military use
The Dutch Koninklijke Luchtmacht (KLu) uses the facility as a military airfield and calls it Vliegbasis Eindhoven , but the old name Welschap is still in use. There are two flying squadrons here, the 334th and 336th Squadron . The latter operates the C-130, the former various types of aircraft.
There are also two multinational units, the European Air Transport Command (EATC) and the Multinational MRTT Unit (MMU).
