future
There have been plans for a long time to expand the airport into a regional or even international airport. The operating company of Schiphol Airport hopes that the low-cost airlines and charter companies will be relocated and that the burden on Schiphol Airport will be relieved. The suggested name was Rembrandt International Airport. After extending the runways, the aim is to expand the capacity to handle one million passengers per year and to create new jobs.

Destinations
Lelystad Airport is the largest airport for smaller aircraft in the Netherlands. There are regular flights to the island of Texel and several flight schools, of which Martinair is the best known. Martinair also has its catering in Lelystad (Marfo). The importer of Diamond Aircraft for the Benelux countries is also stationed at Lelystad Airport.
Aviation Museum
Since 2003 the Aviodrome National Aviation Museum is no longer in Schiphol, but in Lelystad due to lack of space. It caused a sensation when a dismantled KLM Jumbo Boeing 747-206BM (SUD) was transported over land and water from Amsterdam Airport to the museum.
In addition, a replica of a former terminal building of Schiphol Airport was built at the museum . The prototype comes from 1928.
