Walter Windisch

Walter Windisch (born December 8, 1924 in Mosty, North Moravia , † May 29, 2011 in Bonn ) was a German officer and fighter pilot . As lieutenant general from 1982 to 1985 he was deputy inspector general of the Bundeswehr .

Life

Windisch attended a Catholic reform high school. After graduating from high school, he was an officer in the Air Force from 1943. In 1944 he served as a fighter pilot ( ensign ) in Jagdgeschwader 52 (2nd Squadron / JG 52) and in Jagdgeschwader 7 (9th Squadron / JG 7) ( Oberfähnrich (OFhr))

After the Second World War he was city inspector in Grebenstein .

In 1956 the Bundeswehr asked Windisch to join it because of his training as a fighter pilot.

From October 1, 1971 to September 30, 1973 he was in the rank of colonel commander of the 5th Air Force Training Regiment in Goslar .

From April 1, 1978 to March 31, 1982, he was in the rank of major general in command of the Military District Command III .

At the time of the Kießling affair, as Lieutenant General, he was the Deputy Inspector General of the Bundeswehr .

Walter Windisch died on May 29, 2011 and was buried on June 7, 2011 in the Bonn-Endenich cemetery.

Honors

In 1985 he was awarded the Great Cross of Merit with Star of the Federal Republic of Germany. He was honorary chairman of the Foundation of German Officers Association (DOB) . Since 1983 he was an honorary member of the Catholic student union AV Hansea (Berlin) in Cologne in the CV . He was also an honorary member of the Prinzengarde Düsseldorf and since 1981 an honorary senator of the General Association of Carnival Friends 1829 eV (AVDK).
