Peter Schelzig

Peter Schelzig (born June 10, 1955 in Augsburg ) is a retired German Lieutenant General . D. the air force of the German armed forces . From 2009 to 2013 he was Commander of the Air Force Command and from 2013 to 2015 Deputy Inspector General of the Federal Armed Forces as well as the Federal Armed Forces officer for reservist matters.

Military career

Training and first uses

Schelzig joined the German Armed Forces on July 1, 1977 and went through officer training and basic aviation training to become a pilot for jet aircraft until 1982 . From 1982 to 1988 he was deployed as a squadron pilot with Fighter Bomber Wing 32 in Lechfeld , initially on the F 104G "Starfighter" . In 1984 they were retrained to the Tornado type , and later the Tornado flight instructor license followed. This was followed by a use as a task force officer in the same squadron, before he was in 1990 squadron captain in Fighter Bomber Wing 33 in Büchel .

General staff training and service as a staff officer

From 1992 to 1994 he took part in the 37th General Staff Service / Admiralty Staff Service national at the command and control academy of the Bundeswehr in Hamburg . Afterwards he was transferred to the Air Force Command South in Meßstetten , where Schelzig served as Head of Division A3a until 1996 . From 1996 to 1997 he worked in the command staff of the armed forces (Fü S) of the Federal Ministry of Defense in Bonn as a consultant in the staff department VI (conception and planning of the Bundeswehr), before he was appointed deputy adjutant to the Federal Minister of Defense until 1998 . It was used again from 1998 to 2001 with the Fighter Bomber Wing 32 in Lechfeld, this time as a commodore of the squadron. During this time, from April to June 1999, he led the task force 1 as Commodore during Operation Allied Force in the context of the Kosovo conflict. From 2001 to 2002 he was employed as head of the A 3 staff department at the Air Force Command in Cologne . He was therefore responsible for immediate operational preparation and accompaniment, as well as the operation of the Luftwaffe Command Center (FüZLw) as a joint situation center for the Air Force Command, the Air Force Office and the Air Force Command Command.

General uses

From 2002 to 2003 he was appointed Brigadier General as deputy commander of the 4th Air Force Division in Aurich. During this employment he was Deputy Commander (DCOM) Air at the ISAF headquarters in Kabul from February to August 2003 . Schelzig was transferred to Bonn again in 2003, this time as Head of Staff Department III (conception, management and deployment of the Air Force) to the Air Force Command Staff . On May 30, 2005, he was appointed major general and took over command of the 4th Air Force Division in Aurich from Karlheinz Viereck , which he handed over to Volker Zimmer on October 22, 2009 . From October 26, 2009 to April 29, 2013, Schelzig was Commander of the Air Force Command Command , with effect from November 1, 2009, Schelzig was appointed Lieutenant General. On May 1, 2013, he took over the post of deputy inspector general of the Bundeswehr and the officer in charge of reservist matters in the Bundeswehr, which he held until he retired from active service. On September 28, 2015, he was given temporary retirement. His successor was Markus Kneip .

Schelzig flew over 2,700 flight hours during his service, mainly on the starfighter and tornado models .
