Jürgen Schnell (General)

Jürgen Schnell (born March 12, 1935 in Lübeck ) is a retired German Lieutenant General . D. and military economist. From 1991 to 1994 he was the deputy inspector general of the Bundeswehr and officer for reservist matters at the inspector general. In 1995 he became professor for security and military economics / armed forces management at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Munich .

Life

Schnell joined the Federal Border Police in 1956 and in the same year switched to the Bundeswehr Air Force as an officer candidate . After his military training he worked as an officer in the troop service until 1966.

In the years from 1966 to 1970 he was given the opportunity to study business administration at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich , where he did a dissertation in Conflicting Targets in Personnel Policy in 1973 at the Faculty of Political Science . A contribution to the theory of personnel policy decisions for the Dr. rer. pole. received his doctorate. Robert Nieschlag and Edmund Heinen were among his academic teachers .

Between 1970 and 1972 he completed general staff training at the command academy of the Bundeswehr (FüAkBw). After various posts in management and staff functions and a visit to the Royal College of Defense Studies (RCD) in London, he became commander of the Air Force Officers' School (OSLw) in Fürstenfeldbruck in 1984 with the rank of brigadier general . He carried out this task until 1986. Then he was promoted to major general, from 1986 to 1987 commander of the air force training command in Cologne, from 1987 to 1989 chief of staff in the command staff of the armed forces (Fü S) in Bonn and from 1989 to 1991 deputy inspector of the Air Force . Most recently, from 1991 to 1994, he was Deputy Inspector General of the Bundeswehr and Commissioner for reservist matters in the Bundeswehr.

Since 1995 he has held the honorary professorship for security and military economics and armed forces management at the Bundeswehr University in Munich. In this function he was also a visiting lecturer at the Bundeswehr Leadership Academy.

He is a member of the Clausewitz Society . He was also a member of the executive committee of the German Defense Association .

Schnell is married and has two children.
