Norbert Finster

Norbert Finster (* 16th April 1951 in Hochstadt am Main ) is a Lieutenant General of the Air Force of the Armed Forces and since September 30, 2013 retirement. In his last assignment, he was head of the Armed Forces Department at the Federal Ministry of Defense from April 1, 2012 .

Life

Finster joined the Bundeswehr in 1971 as an officer candidate in Fürstenfeldbruck . From 1973 to 1975 he studied business administration (diploma) at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Munich . This was followed by training as an anti-aircraft missile officer HAWK at the Air Force missile school in El Paso , USA . From 1977 to 1983 Finster was deployed with the anti-aircraft missile battalion 37 in Cuxhaven .

This was followed by general staff training at the Bundeswehr Leadership Academy (FüAkBw) in Hamburg from 1983 to 1985. Finster then also took part in the RAF Advanced Staff Course at the Royal Air Force Staff College Bracknell , before becoming Head of Division A3a in the 2nd Air Force Division in Birkenfeld in 1987 has been. Subsequently, he was employed as a speaker in the command staff of the Air Force VI 2 ( NATO armed forces and armed forces planning) in Bonn. In 1992 Finster took over command of the anti-aircraft missile group 21 in Möhnesee . In 1994 and 1995 he was adjutant of the Air Force to the General Inspector (General Klaus Naumann ). This was followed by the assignment as Section Chief Operations and Exercises at the WEU military staff in Brussels. From 1998 to 2001 Finster was Head of Division in the Federal Chancellery in Bonn and Berlin.

From 2001 to 2003 he headed the Air Force Officers' School (OSLw) in Fürstenfeldbruck. He then became commander of the 1st Air Force Division in Fürstenfeldbruck, before becoming Chief of Staff in the Air Force Command (Fü L) in Bonn in 2005 . From 2010 to 2012 he held the post of Deputy Inspector of the Air Force (Lieutenant General Aarne Kreuzinger-Janik ). In addition, Finster was commissioned by Defense Minister Thomas de Maizière in June 2011 to lead the individual project groups for the realignment of the Bundeswehr, “Reorganization of the Armed Forces” and “Stationing Concept”. On March 29, 2012, he was appointed Head of the Armed Forces Department. This department was newly formed in the course of the realignment of the Bundeswehr and the associated reorganization of the ministry.

Finster is married and has two children.
