Erwin Grochla

Erwin Grochla (born May 23, 1921 in Hindenburg OS , Upper Silesia ; † June 2, 1986 in Cologne ) was a German professor of business administration .

Life

Grochla studied after an apprenticeship with subsequent professional experience in industry and management from the winter semester 1947, first at the Humboldt University in Berlin and later in West Berlin at the Free University of Berlin Business Administration . There he passed his diploma in business administration in 1950. In 1953 he received his doctorate from the Free University of Berlin. rer. pole. From 1951 to 1956 he was a research assistant to Erich Kosiol and a lecturer at the Free University of Berlin. 1957 took place at the Free University of Berlin the habilitation for the subject business administration. He then worked as a permanent private lecturer at the Free University of Berlin. In the summer semester of 1958 he was offered the administration of the chair for business administration at the University of Mainz . A short time later, he was appointed to this chair. At the same time he was offered a position at what was then Mannheim Business School . He accepted this appointment and was appointed full professor on December 16, 1958.

Grochla was appointed to the University of Cologne in 1960, to the Saarland University in Saarbrücken and to the University of Frankfurt in 1961 . After accepting the call from Cologne, he was appointed director of the seminar for general business administration and organizational theory at Cologne University on June 1, 1961. In 1963 Grochla was also appointed managing director of the "Business Institute for Organization and Automation ( BIFOA )" at the University of Cologne, which he founded in connection with the economy . From 1963 to 1968 he was a member of the founding committee for the University of Dortmund . Further appointments followed in 1965 at the University of Bochum and Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg and in 1970 at the then University of World Trade in Vienna , none of which he accepted. With eight appointments, he is one of the most frequently appointed university lecturers for economics in German-speaking countries.

Grochla was a member of the Catholic student union K.St.V. Askania-Burgundia Berlin in KV .

Erwin Grochla died in 1986 and was buried in Cologne's Melaten cemetery (corridor 64A).

Research priorities

Grochla's main research areas were a. the business management organization theory and total integrated models of computing . His proven expertise has led to repeated invitations to lectures and joint work at research institutes and universities in the USA, in England, Moscow, Tokyo and many other cities. He was also given various influential public offices. In addition to the already mentioned collaboration in founding the University of Dortmund, he was a member of the founding committee and then a member of the board of the University Seminar of Economics (USW) as well as a member of various expert groups of the federal government. Grochla was also a board member of the Schmalenbach-Gesellschaft für Betriebswirtschaft e. V.

Honors

  • On May 30, 1979 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Free University of Berlin on the following grounds:
    • "for his fundamental contributions to the development of a comprehensive research concept and teaching system in business organization theory and for his pioneering work in the field of business information systems, for his successful and widely recognized teaching activities and his services to the promotion of young academics in business administration."
  • In 2003 the executive committee and the general assembly of the BIFOA decided to set up an "Erwin Grochla Fund" to honor and commemorate the special achievements of Erwin Grochla, the founder of the BIFOA.
