Joachim Rühle

Joachim Georg Rühle (* 1. May 1959 in Stuttgart ) is a German Admiral of the Navy of the Armed Forces . He is currently being prepared for his future assignment as Chief of Staff at the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) in Mons ( Belgium ).

Military background

Promotions

Rühle joined the German Navy with Crew VII / 78 and was trained as an officer at the Mürwik Naval School , on the Gorch Fock and the Germany . From 1979 he studied mechanical engineering at the Helmut Schmidt University - University of the Federal Armed Forces Hamburg . At the beginning of 1983 he became a qualified engineer . This was followed by training as a naval officer with use as an officer on watch on the speedboats Greif and Albatros .

From October 1987 he became adjutant to Rear Admiral Gustav Carl Liebig at the Schleswig-Holstein Territorial Command . Then he went through the naval tactical officer training (B course). This training phase was followed by employment on board the destroyer Lütjens in various operational tasks, most recently as a ship operations officer. In the meantime he was head of staff at DESEX in 1992.

Staff officer

In the 35th "General Staff Service / Admiral Staff Service National Course" from 1993 to 1995 at the command academy of the Bundeswehr , Rühle was trained as an officer in the General Staff Service . He then joined the Armed Forces Staff as a strategic advisor . From 1997 to 1999 he was a personnel manager in the personnel office of the Bundeswehr .

In September 1999 he was used as the first officer on the frigate Emden . In 2000 he became the commandant of the destroyer Mölders and in 2001/02 he was a course participant at Naval War College in Newport (Rhode Island) . In an exchange assignment , he then spent six months at Robert Bosch in the personnel management department. As a follow-up assignment, he was expected to work as a department head in the Bundeswehr Personnel Office from 2003 onwards .

At the end of 2004 he took over the management of the restructuring group Einsatzflottille 2 in the fleet command . During this time he was also used as the Commander Task Group for the Standard Operations Training Association Fleet (SEF). From 2005 to 2008 he served as head of division in the planning department of the command staff of the armed forces in the Federal Ministry of Defense for NATO and EU armed forces planning as well as for Standardization and Interoperability and Concept Development & Experimentation of the Bundeswehr .

Flag officer

In 2008 he took up the post of Head of Division I Military Personnel in the Personnel, Social and Central Affairs Department in the Federal Ministry of Defense. From April 2010, he represented Germany as Director Knowledge Management in the Allied Joint Force Command Naples . On March 29, 2012 he was appointed Head of the Planning Department by Thomas de Maizière . This department was newly formed in the course of the realignment of the Bundeswehr and the associated reorganization of the ministry. On October 1, 2014, Rühle took over the management of the Personnel Department in the Federal Ministry of Defense from Lieutenant General Wolfgang Born .

On July 20, 2017, Rühle succeeded Lieutenant General Markus Kneip as Deputy Inspector General of the Federal Armed Forces and Commissioner for Reservist Affairs . He handed over this post to Lieutenant General Markus Laubenthal in April 2020 .
