Gustav Carl Eduard Liebig (born June 5, 1930 in Waabshof , Eckernförde district , † February 28, 2007 in Flensburg ) was a German naval officer , most recently Rear Admiral of the Federal Navy .

Life

As the son of a naval officer, Liebig studied at the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel and became a member of the Corps Holsatia in 1954 (with Klaus Ring ) . When the Bundeswehr was set up in 1956, he joined the German Navy . From 1960 to 1962 he was in command of the 5th Schnellbootgeschwader and led the boats jay , pelican and stork one after the other .

From 1963 to 1965 he completed the admiral staff course at the command academy of the Bundeswehr in Hamburg . From 1969 to 1971 he was a frigate captain in command of the 7th Schnellbootgeschwader. As a sea captain , he was the commander of the Schnellbootflotille from 1975 to 1978 . From October 1983 to March 1985 he was Flotilla Admiral Chief of Staff in the Naval Support Command and then as Rear Admiral Deputy Commander of the Fleet . At the end of his career, from October 1, 1987, he was in command of the Schleswig-Holstein Territorial Command . The inspector of the army Henning von Ondarza said goodbye to him on September 30, 1989 with an appeal in the barracks Auf der Freiheit and handed over the command to Rear Admiral Jürgen Dubois . He retired in Husby .

Liebig was chairman of the Schloss Glücksburg Foundation . From 1991 until his death he was chairman of the DRK district association in Flensburg. He was buried on March 9, 2007 in Husby.
