Friedrich Kemnade

Friedrich Kemnade (born December 12, 1911 in Schwarmstedt ; † January 29, 2008 in Hamburg ) was a German naval officer , most recently Rear Admiral of the German Navy .

Military career

Navy

In 1935 Kemnade went to sea as a lieutenant on the light cruisers Königsberg and Nürnberg . In 1936 he became the commander of a speedboat in the 1st Schnellboot-Halbflotille and in 1937 a first lieutenant in the sea . At that time he was also an officer teacher at the torpedo school . In 1939 he became first torpedo officer and adjutant on the light cruiser Emden . In the course of the Second World War , Kemnade was mostly used in the Mediterranean as commander of the 3rd Schnellbootflotille . At the end of the war he was corvette captain and assistant in the high command of the navy .

Federal Navy

Kemnade joined the German Navy as a frigate captain in 1956 . There he was a clerk in the staff of the German Military Representative at the NATO Military Committee . In 1958 he became the commander of the speedboat flotilla of the German Navy. In 1959 he was promoted to sea captain and in 1960 commander of the naval forces Baltic Sea Access ( COMNAVGERBALT ). In 1961 he headed the operations department in the fleet command, whose commander also exercised the NATO function of Flag Officer Germany . In 1963 Kemnade became Chief of Staff there. From 1963 he was commander of the naval department at the command academy of the Bundeswehr and was promoted to flotilla admiral in 1964 . In 1968 he became commander in Defense Area I in Kiel and German authorized representative for the Allied Forces Northern Europe . In 1968 he was promoted to Rear Admiral and retired on September 30, 1970.
