St. Lawrence Church

history

Around 1150 nobleman Mirabilis donated the lands around the church of Schwarmstedt ( ecclesia swarmstede ) to the diocese of Minden . It was the ecclesiastical center of the former district bailiff of Essel . The church building was replaced around 1510 by a three-aisled hall church in the Gothic style (today's St. Laurentius Church). Presumably at the end of the 14th century, the lands fell to the Duchy of Braunschweig-Lüneburg .

For the economic development of Schwarmstedt after the central function of the church, the development of the traffic routes became essential. This was initially the shipping on the regulated line, then the expansion of the road Celle - Ahlden. The establishment of the post office also promoted the development. In 1890 the Heidebahn was opened to Visselhövede , which was continued in 1901 from Walsrode to Buchholz in the Nordheide . A little later (1903 to 1905) the - now closed - Allertalbahn Gifhorn - Celle - Verden (Aller) was built.

On March 1, 1974, the communities Bothmer and Grindau were incorporated. On March 7, 1974, in the course of the regional reform of the state of Lower Saxony, the integrated municipality of Schwarmstedt was formed.

coat of arms

The blazon of the Schwarmstedter coat of arms reads: "In silver a red main cradle, in it a golden ploughshare , accompanied by two silver wheel crosses ."

The Hauptschragen, united by the shield head and the Andreaskreuz (coat of arms of the von Hademstorf family) honors the memory of the knightly family belonging to the Lüneburg knighthood, who owned the estate for 400 years and identifies Schwarmstedt as a traffic junction that also gives the place ecclesiastical and economic priority Visibility certified for centuries. The ploughshare emphasizes the former agricultural structure of the village. The two wheel crosses are symbols of the united worldly and ecclesiastical power as symbols of salvation, wish and defense from the Germanic times, as can be found in the carvings of the farmhouses.

Town twinning

Town partnerships exist with Kröpelin ( Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania ) and Miękinia in the Polish Voivodeship Dolny Slask ( Lower Silesia ).
