Grindau is a district of the municipality Schwarmstedt in the integrated municipality Schwarmstedt in the district of Heidekreis in Lower Saxony .

geography

Grindau is on the L 193 , which leads from Schwarmstedt in a southerly direction to Esperke .

A few hundred meters south of the village, the 11 km long Grindau , which gives the place its name, flows into the Leine .

history

The later emperor Otto III. around 990 had a border drawn through the center of Grindau, dividing the place. It was not until 1495 that the principalities of Calenberg and Wolfenbüttel came into being through the division of inheritance in Welfenland, and the previous diocese border through the town of Grindau became a state border with real significance for the people living here.

The so-called districts of Groß-Grindau and Klein-Grindau, created by the demarcation, existed separately from one another until 1859. Groß-Grindau developed along the village road as a row village , whereas Klein-Grindau resembles a Wendland round village .

Although Grindau was affected by regular flooding of the Leine, the agriculture operated here was very successful due to the fertile Leinemarschboden and contributed to the recognizable prosperity of the place. The Prussian map from 1897 shows 18 barns for the Scheunenviertel in the north-east of the oak grove, but today these barns have shrunk to four buildings in poor condition due to burning down and decay.

On March 1, 1974, Grindau was incorporated into the community of Schwarmstedt.
