Hodenhagen is a municipality in the Heidekreis district in Lower Saxony .
geography
Hodenhagen is located on the Aller in the Aller-Leine Valley . Neighboring communities are Walsrode , Eickeloh , Grethem , Ahlden , Böhme and Hademstorf .
history
Old names of the place are around 1168 de Hode, 1171 Hude, 1262 Hermanno Hodenhagen and around 1267 Henricus de Hodenhagene.
The noble family von Hodenberg had their seat in the castle Hodenhagen , which was mentioned for the first time in 1244. It was about 1 km east of today's village in an uninhabited area at an important river crossing over the Meiße . The castle was razed during armed conflicts as early as 1289 . A memorial stone from 1856 that was erected at the former location reminds of this. As a result, the lords of the castle moved their seat further west to today's district of Hudemühlen and thus formed the origin of today's town of Hodenhagen. Presumably the von Hodenhagen initially only built a courtyard with defensive building elements. In 1448, Hudemühlen is mentioned as a castle which, according to maps, was still surrounded by walls in the 17th century. In the 16th century, the castle was converted into a splendid renaissance castle , albeit in a half-timbered construction . It consisted of three main buildings and a farm building. In addition, it had a round and a rectangular tower. At the beginning of the 19th century the castle was demolished.
The municipality of Hodenhagen, which is part of the joint municipality of Ahlden, is comparatively young; it was founded on October 1, 1936 when the municipalities of Riethagen, Hudemühlen-Burg and Hudemühlen-Flecken merged. The districts themselves are much older, the first documented mention of the settlements of Riethagen and Hudemühlen comes from the year 1330. The historical name of the family of Hodenhagen was chosen for the community that was established in 1936 .
