About this picture

Frankenfeld is a municipality in the joint municipality of Rethem / Aller in the Heidekreis district in Lower Saxony . In terms of population, Frankenfeld is the smallest municipality in the Heidekreis district.

geography

The community is located in an Allerbogen on the state road 157 between Rethem (Aller) and Ahlden (Aller) . There are several campsites in the municipality. The Frankenfelder Bruch is a state forest.

In addition to the village of Frankenfeld, the districts Hedern and Bosse belong to the community.

The old town center of Bosse lies in the narrowest loop of the river Lower Aller.

history

Historically, the settlement with Gut Frankenfeld is probably one of the oldest villages in the area. The von Honstedt family resident here is mentioned as early as 1360 , while the settlement could have existed as early as the time of Charlemagne .

In 1917, the L 36 naval airship ran aground on the frozen Aller in the Bosse district .

On March 1, 1974, the communities Bosse and Hedern were incorporated.

Explanation of the place name

Old names of the place are 1342 Franckenvelde , 1342 Franckenvelde and 1361 Vrankenuelde .

The name suggests a Frankish settlement from the time of Charlemagne . However, the place name refers more to the male first name "Franko", so that Frankenfeld probably means "settlement of Franko".

politics

Since the local elections on September 11, 2011, all nine council members belong to the electoral community.

Heiko Badenhop is honorary mayor. The community director is Alexander von Seggern from the joint community administration.

  • The Frankenfeld manor is located near the Aller and is now operated as a campsite.

  • The entrance to the village is surrounded by an approximately one-hundred-year-old lime tree avenue.
