Friedrich-Otto Ripke (born April 21, 1953 in Schwarmstedt ) is a German politician ( CDU ). From 2005 to 2013 he was State Secretary in the Lower Saxony Ministry of Food, Agriculture, Consumer Protection and Regional Development . Until 2005 he was a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament and general secretary of the CDU Lower Saxony.

Life and work

Ripke trained as a state-certified agricultural assistant and studied from 1974 to 1977 at the Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences . After completing his studies, Ripke began working as a qualified engineer for agriculture at the Plant Protection Office at the Hanover Chamber of Agriculture . Since 1986 he has worked there as the head of the department for specialist training, application technology and official monitoring. He also worked on advisory boards of the Federal Biological Institute for Agriculture and in international working groups of the German Phytomedical Society.

In March 2003 he was elected as a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament for the constituency of Walsrode ( Heidekreis district ), where he was a member of the interior and environment committee and chairman of the agricultural committee. In August 2003 the state party conference elected him Secretary General of the CDU Lower Saxony. He gave up this position on November 29, 2005 and was State Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture until 2013. Since the end of November 2013 he has been President of the Association of the Lower Saxony Poultry Industry NGW, the largest lobby organization for Lower Saxony's poultry producers with around 1200 member companies. In June 2020, he spoke out against a ban on work contracts in the meat industry.

Ripke is married and has three children.
