Life

This was followed by activities for the Westfalen-Blatt (1983-85) and from 1986 to 1999 editorial management at the daily newspaper Die Welt . Range was then head of the information department and press spokesman at the German Atomic Energy Forum until 2000 and headed the media and communication department of the Federal Association of Medium-Sized Enterprises from 2001 to 2003. In 2003 he founded the communications agency TRANSLIMES Media in Berlin. From 2005 to 2006 he was the successor to Hans-Jürgen Mahlitz as editor-in-chief of the Prussian General Newspaper published by the East Prussian Landsmannschaft .

In the Bundeswehr he holds the rank of lieutenant colonel of the reserve and was during a military exercise a. a. used as commander of the 412 Panzer Grenadier Battalion.

reception

His portrayal of the relationship between the Wehrmacht and the traditional legacy of the Bundeswehr was partially criticized. The Wehrmacht characterizes Range “despite some involvement in war crimes, nevertheless [as] a conveyer of values, virtues and professional characteristics from 300 years of military history to the Bundeswehr”.

Rainer Blasius ruled in the FAZ that Range had served in the war in his book . The generals and admirals of the Bundeswehr have put together a lot of interesting biographical details, but tend to be transfigured and often indulge in "the romanticism of the ' Landser ' magazines".
