The Operational Flotilla 2 ( EinsFltl 2 or EF 2 ) is one of the three major units of the German Navy at brigade level , alongside the Operational Flotilla 1 and the Naval Aviation Command . The EF 2 is subordinate to the department head of operations in the naval command in Rostock . Command and headquarters of Flotilla 2 have their headquarters as a command authority in Wilhelmshaven .
organization
The EF 2 emerged from the former destroyer flotilla on June 27, 2006 as part of a major reorganization of the fleet . It contains the largest units of the fleet with frigates and supply units.
The EF 2 staff is located in Wilhelmshaven. A task force for the management of tactical units belongs to it. All frigates and some of the supply ships are stationed in Wilhelmshaven , some supply ships have their home ports on the Baltic Sea.
The following units are subordinate to the Commander EF 2:
2nd frigate squadron
On October 1, 1988, the 2nd frigate squadron was set up in Wilhelmshaven. Since January 2006 all frigates of the Sachsen -class (124) and Brandenburg -class (123) have been subordinate to the 2nd frigate squadron.
- Saxony class (124) ; Multipurpose frigates for escort protection and for air defense units
- Brandenburg- class (123) ; Frigates for hunting submarines and leading a unit
4th frigate squadron
On November 16, 1981, the 4th frigate squadron was set up in Wilhelmshaven. Since January 2006, all frigates of the Bremen class (122) have been subordinate to the 4th frigate squadron. It will be replaced by the new Baden-Württemberg class (125).

The following military or civilian manned auxiliary ships are subordinate to the supply squadron .

The naval base command Wilhelmshaven is responsible for the operation of the naval base Heppenser Groden .

Calls
As before, the EF 2 ships are involved in many naval missions abroad as part of the destroyer flotilla. They also make the German contribution to the standing NATO associations Standing NATO Maritime Group 1 (SNMG 1) and Standing NATO Maritime Group 2 (SNMG 2) and take part in NATO operations within this framework. The commander of the EF 2 is intended as the German unit leader of national or multinational naval units and is supported in this task by his task force.
