The Operational Flotilla 1 ( EinsFltl 1 or EF 1 ) is one of the three major units of the German Navy at brigade level , alongside the Operational Flotilla 2 and the Naval Aviation Command . The EF 1 is subordinate to the department head of operations in the naval command in Rostock . Command and headquarters of Flotilla 1 are based as command authority in Kiel.

history

The EF 1 was set up on June 29, 2006 as part of a major reorganization of the fleet. The speedboat flotilla , the submarine flotilla and the flotilla of the mine forces have merged into it . It originally included all speedboats , anti-mine vehicles and submarines of the German Navy. The five new corvettes of the Braunschweig class (K 130) were integrated into the association from 2008 . In 2012 the naval bases on the Baltic Sea were subordinated to the EF1 . On September 27, 2016, the 5th minesweeping squadron was decommissioned and the support squadron was put into service in Kiel . On November 16, 2016, the 7th Schnellbootgeschwader in Warnemünde was decommissioned.

tasks

The main task of EF1 is to provide the Bundeswehr with maritime capabilities for operations close to the coast (“force provider”). The duties of the flotilla staff also include leading naval units at sea. For this purpose, a task force for the management of tactical units has been integrated into him. The then commander EF 1, Flotilla Admiral Thomas Jugel , temporarily led the European Union's naval operation “ Atalanta ” in the Indian Ocean.

In addition, the Commander EF 1 is Director of the NATO- accredited Center of Excellence for Operations in Confined and Shallow Waters (COE CSW).
