The commando special forces of the navy ( KSM ) is formed by the combat swimmers . These special forces in the Navy are deployed as divers, lone fighters, infantrymen, parachutists, explosives, or powerboat drivers. The command is stationed in Eckernförde and is subordinate to the operational flotilla 1 . Together with the sea battalion, it forms the German marine infantry . Since April 1, 2014 combat swimmers have been set up in the KSM as special forces in the Navy. These previously belonged to the Marine Specialized Forces (SEK M) from 1997 to 2014 , which was dissolved with the reorganization. They form the counterpart to the sea of the special forces command of the army , with which a constant exchange of experience takes place.

The Special Forces Command of the Navy (KSM) is responsible for armed evacuation operations, the fight against international terrorism, the reconnaissance of ports and ship congregations and the acquisition of key information. They can also be used at home and abroad to protect your own ships and port facilities. The soldiers of the task force are qualified to carry out operations on water, from the air and on land. The soldiers can be sent as part of the training support for friendly countries and advise the leadership there on training and equipment.
