The Naval Aviation Command ( MFlgKdo ) is a command authority of the Navy to which the naval aviation forces are subordinate. The command, like the operational flotilla 1 and operational flotilla 2, is subordinate to the head of the operational department in the naval command in Rostock .

History and structure

The Naval Aviation Command was set up on October 8, 2012 in Nordholz near Cuxhaven . It took over the duties of the defunct Fleet Command settled sector M Air (naval aviation), the last department head Captain Horstmann also the first commander of the Naval Air Command was.

The staff of the Naval Aviation Command has around 70 members and is divided into four departments:

The Naval Aviation Command is subordinate to the Naval Aviation Squadron 3 "Graf Zeppelin" (MFG 3) and the Naval Aviation Squadron 5 (MFG 5), both of which are stationed in Nordholz with around 2000 soldiers and civilian employees .

The Navy's fixed-wing aircraft are combined in Naval Aviation Squadron 3. It is also responsible for the operation of the Nordholz Air Base. All helicopters in the Navy belong to Marine Aviation Squadron 5. It is responsible for SAR operations, for which it reports two branch offices on Heligoland and in the Rostock district of Hohe Düne ( Warnemünde naval base ).
