The naval command ( MarKdo ) is the staff of the inspector of the navy and the only higher command authority of the German navy . It was set up on October 1st, 2012 in Rostock . The official assembly roll call took place on October 9, 2012.

The naval command consists of the previous naval command and the two higher command authorities, the fleet command and the naval office . The headquarters of the naval command is in Rostock. Other parts are stationed in Glücksburg , Berlin and Wilhelmshaven .

tasks

The naval command is the highest command of the navy. The units of the Navy are subordinate to him.

In addition, the naval command has operational management tasks. It has a Maritime Operations Center / MOC for this purpose. It serves as the operations center for the inspector of the navy in his responsibility as a troop provider for operations and equivalent obligations. It is still housed in the former fleet command in Glücksburg. The new MOC is under construction in Rostock. The MOC includes the German-Polish submarine command cell and the SAR control center .

The Baltic Maritime Component Command (BMCC) will be set up in Rostock as the second command facility within the naval command, and it will be operational after 2020. It is at the same time the core staff of the new DEU MARFOR task force that is currently being set up. BMCC and DEU MARFOR serve as leadership on the upper tactical level. They should have particular expertise in marginal sea operations in the Baltic Sea and therefore work closely with the Center of Excellence for Operations in Confined and Shallow Waters in Kiel.

A reorganization of the naval command came into effect on April 1, 2020. Two new commanders belonging to the command were established and the leadership skills of the chief of staff were strengthened.

structure

The naval command is led by the inspector of the navy in the rank of vice admiral , who is assisted by a deputy in the same rank and the chief of staff in the rank of rear admiral . It is divided into five departments:

  • commitment
  • Planning, conception

  • the commissioner for the general average of the navy,
