Hans-Wolfgang von der Heide-Kattwinkel (* 1954 in Wiesbaden ) is a German doctor and medical officer ( retired Admiralarzt ) . Most recently he was Admiral of the Navy doctor in the Navy Command in Rostock .

Military career

Training and first uses

In 1973, Hans-Wolfgang von der Heide-Kattwinkel joined the German Armed Forces as a temporary soldier with anti-aircraft battalion 5 . In 1975 he was dismissed as a reserve officer . From 1976 to 1979 he completed a sports degree at the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel . From 1979 to 1986 he studied human medicine with a license to practice medicine and a doctorate in Kiel. In 1986 he worked as an assistant doctor at the Institute for Sports Medicine at Kiel University. Then he was an assistant doctor for internal medicine in Schleswig . With the re-entry into the armed forces , von der Heide-Kattwinkel was employed as a troop doctor in the naval aviation medical team of the Naval Aviation Wing 5 (MFG 5) in Kiel-Holtenau (1988–1990). In 1991 he completed his aviation training at the Medical Corps (United States Navy) Operational Training Center (NAMI) in Pensacola (Florida) . From 1991 to 1993 he received his specialist training in general medicine at the Bundeswehr Hospital in Kiel in Kronshagen .

Service as a staff officer

From 1993 to 1997 von der Heide-Kattwinkel was the squadron chief of the naval aviation medical squadron of the MFG 5. He was then until 2002 head of the medical service in the naval aviation flotilla . From 2002 to 2005 he was employed as department head G 3 in the Medical Command I in Kiel. Subsequently, he was group leader of the medical service and deputy admiralty marine in the fleet command in Glücksburg until 2012 . During this time he took part in the Senior Course at the NATO Defense College in Rome .

Service as admiral doctor

On July 1, 2012, von der Heide-Kattwinkel took over the post of admiralty doctor in the Navy, at the same time head of department in the fleet command . With the reorganization of the navy in autumn 2012, he remained admiral doctor of the navy, but switched to the new naval command in Rostock as head of the medical service. On March 17, 2016, he handed over his position to Stephan Apel in order to retire at the end of March 2016.
