Michael Mollenhauer (born November 27, 1951 in Osterode am Harz ) is a Rear Admiral a. D. of the German Navy .

Military career

Michael Mollenhauer joined the German Navy in 1971, after graduating from high school, as an officer candidate and member of Crew X / 71 .

Following the three-year training as an officer in the troop service , during which he was promoted to lieutenant at sea , he underwent a three-year training course as a jet pilot officer on the type Starfighter F-104 G, mostly in the USA . During this time he was promoted to lieutenant at sea . From 1977 to 1984 Mollenhauer was used as a fighter-bomber pilot officer (promotion to captainleutnant on October 1, 1978) with the Marinefliegergeschwader 2 in Tarp . Subsequently, from October 1984 to September 1986, he took part in the 26th General / Admiralty Staff Service at the German Armed Forces Command Academy in Hamburg .

On October 1, 1986, he was promoted to corvette captain and after almost 2000 hours of flight on the Starfighter he was retrained to the aircraft type PA 200 Tornado in Cottesmore, Great Britain . From April 1987 to June 1988 Mollenhauer was used as a task force officer in the 1st squadron of the Naval Aviation Squadron 2 in Tarp, before he then led the 1st squadron of the Naval Aviation Squadron 1 in Jagel until September 1990 as a squadron captain .

From 1990 to 1995 two assignments followed in the Federal Ministry of Defense in Bonn , initially in the naval command for operational planning of naval aviators and from April 1992 in the command of the armed forces as a basic consultant for planning of the armed forces . During this time (April 1, 1991) he was promoted to frigate captain . At the beginning of February 1995 Mollenhauer returned to the Naval Aviation Squadron 2 in Tarp, where he initially led Naval Aviation Squadron 2 as S 3 and Deputy Commodore until September 1997 and subsequently as Commodore until the end of 2001 . During this time he was promoted to sea captain on January 1, 2000 . Mollenhauer ended his active aviation career with almost 3,700 flight hours on jet aircraft of the Bundeswehr at the end of 2001.

From September 1, 2009, with simultaneous appointment as rear admiral, Mollenhauer was used as deputy commander of the fleet. From June 30, 2011, he took over the official business of the commander, since the then commander, Vice Admiral Manfred Nielson , had given up command and the post was not filled as part of the realignment of the Bundeswehr .

On October 1, 2012, he began his last assignment as a department head for the newly formed naval command in Rostock. Mollenhauer retired on May 19, 2014.
