Hans-Christian Luther

Hans-Christian Luther (born January 21, 1955 ) is a Rear Admiral a. D. of the German Navy . His last assignment was from May 2015 to April 2018 as Deputy Head of the Strategy and Operations Department at the Federal Ministry of Defense in Berlin .

Life

Luther began his basic military service in the Bundeswehr in 1974 . 1977 became an officer candidate in the Navy. From 1977 to 1981 he studied education at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Hamburg .

After various positions as a naval officer, he became the commander of the mine-hunting boat in Wetzlar in 1986 . In 1989 he was transferred to the Federal Ministry of Defense . In 1992 he went to the Mürwik Naval School as head of inspection . From 1993 to 1994 he completed admiral staff training at the École Supérieure de Guerre Navale in Paris. In 1994 he became the commander of the 7th mine sweeping squadron. This was followed by admiralty staff training at Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island and a position as a speaker at the headquarters of the armed forces . From 1998 to 2000 he was Adjutant Marine to the Inspector General of the Bundeswehr . In 2000 he became a staff officer at NATO headquarters in Brussels. From 2003 to 2005 he was the commander of the Mine Force Flotilla . After further positions, in 2007 he became Head of Operations and Deputy Chief of Staff at the Fleet Command in Glücksburg. In 2012 he took over the military policy and deployment subdivision in the Federal Ministry of Defense.

From May 19, 2014 to April 30, 2015, Luther, as the successor to Rear Admiral Mollenhauer , who has been retired, held the post of Head of Operations at the Naval Command in Rostock. From May 1, 2015 to April 2018, Luther was Deputy Head of the Strategy and Operations Department in the Federal Ministry of Defense. He passed this post to Major General Ingo Gerhartz and retired at the end of the month.
