Ingo Gerhartz (born December 9, 1965 in Cochem ) is a German Lieutenant General in the Air Force of the Bundeswehr and has been the 16th Inspector of the Air Force since May 29, 2018 .

Military career

Training and first uses

Promotions

Gerhartz entered the Air Force Training Regiment 2 of the Air Force on July 1, 1985 as a conscript in Budel ( Netherlands ) . From 1986 to 1987 he was trained as an officer at the Air Force Officer School in Fürstenfeldbruck . From 1988 to 1989 he completed his training as a jet pilot on a Cessna Cessna T-37 Tweet and Northrop T-38 Talon as part of the Euro Nato Joint Jet Pilot Training at Sheppard Air Force Base ( Texas , USA ), and from 1989 to 1990 the Weapon system training on the McDonnell F-4F Phantom II at George Air Force Base near Victorville , California . From 1990 to 1998 various troop deployments followed as a fighter pilot and operational staff officer in Jagdgeschwader 71 “Richthofen” in Wittmund on the F-4F weapon system. From 1998 to 2000 Gerhartz took part in the 43rd National General Staff Course at the command academy of the Bundeswehr in Hamburg .

Service as a staff officer

The first assignment as a staff officer led Gerhartz from 2000 to 2003, as commander of the flying group of Jagdgeschwader 73 “Steinhoff” , to Laage . For this he was retrained on the MiG-29 Fulcrum weapon system . From 2003 to 2005 he was employed as a ministerial advisor for the principle and planning of flying weapons systems in the Federal Ministry of Defense in Bonn . Gerhartz was the military representative for the EF-2000 Eurofighter . This was followed from 2005 to 2007 as a spokesman for ISAF and the Air Force in the press and information staff of the Federal Ministry of Defense at the headquarters in Berlin . From 2008 to 2010 Gerhartz led the fighter-bomber squadron 31 "Boelcke" as commodore . For this purpose, he was retrained in the PA-200 Tornado weapon system . During this time he also managed the conversion of the squadron to the EF-2000. From 2010 to 2012, he was employed as a group leader for planning and deploying combat aircraft in the Air Force Command in Cologne . From 2012 to 2013 Gerhartz was again in the ministry, this time as head of division FüL III 5 (principle of flying systems air force) in the command staff of the air force (at the same time head of the helicopter skill transfer working group ) and later as head of division 2IIa ( principle, leadership, use of jet / UAS ) in Air Force Command in Berlin-Gatow . Another assignment followed in the Luftwaffe command, this time as sub-department head 1I (planning and further development of the Luftwaffe) . In 2014 he was again employed in the press and information staff of the Federal Ministry of Defense, this time as deputy to the ministry spokesman Jens Flosdorff and head of the press department . He handed over this post to Colonel Boris Nannt .

Service as a general

From September 1, 2015 to October 1, 2017, Gerhartz was head of the office of the Inspector General of the Bundeswehr , General Volker Wieker , in connection with his promotion to Brigadier General, and he took over this post from Brigadier General Andreas Marlow . On October 1, 2017, he handed over the position of office manager of the inspector general to Brigadier General Jürgen-Joachim von Sandrart , and was then, with promotion to major general, deployed as deputy head of the department for strategy and operations in the Federal Ministry of Defense in Berlin. Here he succeeded Rear Admiral Hans-Christian Luther . Since March 16, 2018 he was the designated inspector of the Air Force . On May 29, 2018, Gerhartz, having previously been promoted to Lieutenant General, succeeded Lieutenant General Karl Müllner as Inspector of the Air Force.
