Gerhard Limberg

Gerhard Limberg (born July 7, 1920 in Eidinghausen (today Bad Oeynhausen ), † March 23, 2006 ) was a German officer, most recently in the rank of lieutenant general . From 1974 to 1978 he was an air force inspector .
Life
Limberg was used as a ground attack aircraft in the 10./(Jabo-) squadron of Jagdgeschwader 2 , III./Schnellkampfgeschwader 10 and III./Schlachtgeschwader 4 during World War II . He was with the on March 20, 1944 German Cross in Gold awarded. In 1956 he joined the newly founded Air Force with the rank of first lieutenant . In the period from 1963 to 1968 he was commodore of the light combat squadron 41 in Husum, which was dissolved in 1993 .
In the following years he dealt with the succession planning for the aircraft F-104 Starfighter and the introduction of the MRCA ( Tornado ) weapon system . From 1971 to 1972 he was in command of the 3rd Air Force Division - at that time stationed in Münster . In 1972 Limberg became Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of the 4th ATAF in Heidelberg in the integrated NATO staff . Finally, Lieutenant General Limberg was Deputy Inspector from 1973 to 1974 and then from April 1, 1974 to September 30, 1978 as the successor to Lieutenant General Rall Inspector of the Air Force.
Limberg was one of the first pilots in the German Air Force to be trained on post-war designs .
