Hans-Jörg Kuebart (born September 2, 1934 in Allenstein , East Prussia , † February 14, 2018 in Bad Honnef ) was a German lieutenant general in the Bundeswehr ( air force ). From 1983 to 1989 he was Commanding General of the Air Fleet Command and from 1991 to 1994 Inspector of the Air Force .

Military career

Hans-Jörg Kuebart joined the Federal Border Police in 1955 , before he switched to the Bundeswehr ( Army ) in 1956 , where he trained as a lieutenant in the armored force . In 1957 he switched to the Air Force and began pilot training in Landsberg am Lech and Fürstenfeldbruck on the North American T-6 , the Republic F-84 and the Lockheed T-33 .

From 1958 to 1964 was Kuebart pilot and later squadron commander at the Fighter Bomber Wing 33 in Büchel . Meanwhile promoted to captain , from 1964 to 1966 he took part in the general staff course of the air force at the command academy of the German armed forces . As Major Kuebart was subsequently A3 - staff officer in command 3rd Air Division . From 1968 to 1972 he was group commander of the flying group and then commodore of the fighter-bomber squadron 34 "Allgäu" . During this time he was promoted to colonel . After his promotion to lieutenant general , he became the commanding general of the air fleet command in Cologne-Wahn . From 1989 to 1991 he was Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of the Allied Air Forces in Central Europe .

On April 1, 1991, Lieutenant General Hans-Jörg Kuebart was appointed 9th Inspector of the Air Force by the then Federal Defense Minister Gerhard Stoltenberg . He held this position until September 30, 1994.

Private

His older brother Bernd Kuebart, also a military pilot, was killed in 1962 when a Starfighter formation crashed in Nörvenich.

Hans-Jörg Kuebart was married and had three sons. Jan Kuebart is also a jet pilot and as Brigadier General Head of Development and Planning in the Air Force Command , Arnt Kuebart is in the Air Defense Missile Service (Luftwaffe) and as Colonel Commodore of the Air Defense Missile Squadron 1 .
