New World was an Australian software Pop - band whose biggest hit, Tom Tom Turnaround , was published 1971st

Band history

The group was founded in 1965 by the British John Lee (born March 9, 1944 in Ashtead ) and the Australian Mel Noonan (born November 10, 1943 in Sydney ). In 1968 the Scotsman John Kane (born April 18, 1946 in Glasgow ) was added as the third man . In Australia they were soon one of the most famous bands.

In the early 1970s, songwriters Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman saw the group on TV, brought them to Europe and made contact with record boss Mickie Most . He immediately engaged the band for his record label RAK Records .

Their first release, Rose Garden , reached number 15 in the UK in 1971. Ironically, a version of the song with which was at the same time Country - singer Lynn Anderson released - and was ranked one of many international charts .

The biggest hit of New World in the same year was to be Tom Tom Turnaround , who took it to number six in Great Britain and number ten in Germany . Kara, Kara , also in 1971, wasn't that successful anymore (17th place on the island and 31st place in Germany). Both titles were successful in the German version with the singer Peter Orloff ( Cora, come home or whenever I see Josy ). New World also published a version of Kara Kara with German text in 1971 .

In 1972, however, they achieved 9th place in England with Sister Jane . In the same year they also recorded Living Next Door to Alice , but it flopped. In 1976 the song was reissued, this time with Smokie , and became a world hit.

The last New World release dates from 1976.
