Bachelor of Engineering

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Bachelor of Engineering - in short: usually B. Eng. or BEng , in some countries, BE  - is an academic degree , by the Bachelor -Studies an engineering science can be obtained. It is a first professional university degree that also entitles you to a consecutive Master’s degree . The diploma from a university of applied sciences and the diploma I from a comprehensive university are academically equivalent to the bachelor's degree.

Bologna process

As a result of the Bologna Process , the academic degree of qualified engineer has been replaced by Bachelor and Master degrees in all higher education systems. The Bachelor, with a standard period of study of six to seven semesters, replaces the diploma of the universities of applied sciences as well as the diploma I of the comprehensive universities, which each had a standard period of study of seven or eight semesters. The Master's, with a further duration of three to four semesters, replaces the diploma of the universities as well as the diploma II of the comprehensive universities, which usually lasted between nine and ten semesters.

In Germany , Austria and Switzerland , however, it is not specified for engineering sciences whether the Bachelor of Engineering or the Bachelor of Science should be awarded. Which bachelor's degree is awarded after completing the course is specified in the examination regulations of the respective university.

In contrast to the diploma, the university supplement is no longer included in the academic degree for the Bachelor and Master. While the graduate engineer at a university of applied sciences, the Dipl.-Ing. (FH) was assigned, the abbreviation (FH) is no longer necessary due to the fact that qualifications are equivalent across universities. It is also no longer possible to draw conclusions about the subject . For example, graduates of the industrial engineering course received the academic degree of Diplom-Wirtschaftsingenieur , while they now also have both the B. Eng. as well as the B. Sc. can be awarded.

Further degrees

The Bachelor of Engineering has a slightly different designation, especially abroad due to its many specializations and courses, so the following academic degrees are awarded:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering (BSc in Eng.)
  • Bachelor of Business Engineering (BBE)
  • Bachelor of Business Administration and Engineering (BBAE)
