The command staff of the army ( Fü H ) was a department in the Federal Ministry of Defense and one of the five command posts in the military management area of the Bundeswehr . The command staff of the army was thus at the same time a ministerial department and the highest military command authority of the army . On October 1, 2012, the non-ministerial tasks were transferred to the Army Command , which since then has been in charge of all subordinate units of the Army as the purely military supreme command authority of the Army.

The deputy inspector also held the rank of lieutenant general. The Inspector General of the Bundeswehr and the subordinate command staff of the armed forces were initially only authorized to give instructions to the command staff of the armed forces in questions of the development and implementation of the overall concept of the Bundeswehr. The staff last consisted of around 180 soldiers and civilian employees.
