Josef Moll (born September 5, 1908 in Laupertshausen ; † January 7, 1989 in Stuttgart ) was a lieutenant general in the Army of the German Armed Forces and last served from 1966 to 1968 as the Army Inspector .

Military career

After graduating from high school, Moll entered the service of the Württemberg state police in 1926 and, after completing his training, was appointed lieutenant in the state police in 1933. After the takeover of the Nazis and the preparation of the Wehrmacht Moll was in 1935 as lieutenant transferred to selbige and served in the infantry regiment 15 as regimental adjutant and company commander . In 1940 he completed his general staff training and in 1941 became second general staff officer of the 20th Panzer Division .

In 1942 he was transferred to the 3rd Panzer Army on the Eastern Front and served there, meanwhile promoted to Major , as the Fourth General Staff Officer (Id) in the General Staff under Colonel General Georg-Hans Reinhardt . This was followed by a transfer to the XIV Panzer Corps , where Moll was deployed as the first general staff officer (Ia). He was then transferred to Army Group Africa , where he was the third general staff officer (Ic) responsible for the enemy situation. He then held this post in the re-established Army Group B and in the XIV Panzer Corps in Italy .

In 1944 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and took over the post of Ia in the 29th Panzer Grenadier Division , also in Italy. Moll was then until the surrender Ia of the re-established Army Group C in Italy and at the end of the war was taken prisoner by the US until 1946.

In 1957 Moll was reactivated as a colonel in the newly created Bundeswehr . Appointed brigadier general, he was deputy head of office and chief of staff at the military office from 1959 to 1961 . From 1961 to 1963 he was in Bonn in the personnel department of the Federal Ministry of Defense, head of sub-department P4 (Army). From July 11, 1963 to January 1, 1965, he took over the 10th Panzer Grenadier Division in Sigmaringen from Johann Adolf Graf von Kielmansegg , who was appointed major general . He was then appointed lieutenant general in Bonn from 1965 to 1966 as deputy to the inspector of the army, Ulrich de Maizière , and succeeded him on August 25, 1966. He kept the post of army inspector until his retirement on September 30, 1968.
