Meinhard gloss
Meinhard Glanz (born August 8, 1924 in Sundhausen ; † December 6, 2005 in Neu-Isenburg ) was a lieutenant general in the army of the German armed forces and most recently from 1981 to 1984 inspector of the army .
Military career
Glanz did military service in the Wehrmacht in World War II and was most recently a flag junior . He then worked as a driving instructor until 1950 and then joined the German service groups of the US Army . Here he was a company commander in an amphibious engineer battalion.
After the establishment of the Bundeswehr in 1955, in January 1956, Glanz was hired as a flag junior in the pioneer troop and trained as an officer. Employments as platoon leader and company commander followed. From 1961 to 1963 he completed general staff training at the command academy of the Bundeswehr in Hamburg and then served as an operations officer ( G3 ) in a tank brigade . He then commanded an engineer battalion and then served as chief of staff in an armored infantry division . In 1971 he graduated from the NATO Defense College in Rome and then took over the management of the training department on the staff of Allied Forces Central Europe under the command of General Jürgen Bennecke .
In 1973 he was transferred to the Federal Ministry of Defense , where he was head of the organization department in the army command staff under Lieutenant General Horst Hildebrandt . On October 1, 1977, Glanz, appointed major general, took command of the 11th Panzer Grenadier Division in Oldenburg , Lower Saxony , which he led until September 30, 1980. Since October 1, 1980 commander of the II. Corps , he led it as lieutenant general until September 30, 1981. On October 1, 1981, Glanz was transferred to Bonn again and rose as the successor to Johannes Poeppel to inspect the army .
On September 30, 1984, he handed over this post, like the 11th Panzer Grenadier Division four years earlier, to Hans-Henning von Sandrart and was retired.
