Gottfried Ewert

Gottfried Ewert (born August 12, 1921 in Leunenburg , East Prussia ; † January 12, 2014 in Bremen - St. Magnus ) was a German major general in the Bundeswehr .

Life

On October 1, 1966 Ewert was a colonel in the general staff i successor to colonel. G. Horst Cundius as Chief of Staff of the Panzer Division stationed in Hanover and held this position until his replacement by Colonel i. G. Meinhard Glanz on October 1st, 1969.

On October 1, 1970, Ewert became Brigadier General's successor to Brigadier General Alfred Müller as Commander of Panzerlehrbrigade 9 in Munster . He held this post for four years until he was replaced by Brigadier General Franz-Joachim von Rodde on October 1, 1974.

Then Ewert was promoted to major general on October 1, 1974 and successor to major general Hans-Heinrich Klein as commander of the 11th Panzer Grenadier Division in Oldenburg . After three years at this post, he was replaced on October 1, 1977 by Major General Meinhard Glanz. In this function, he ordered a suicide-prone soldier to be released from military service at the end of August 1976 after he had stayed away from the troops without permission on several occasions.

Then he was initially from October 1, 1977 to June 30, 1978 Deputy Commanding General of the III. Corps in Koblenz and as such deputy of Lieutenant General Franz Pöschl and since April 1, 1978 of Lieutenant General Paul-Georg Kleffel .

After completing this activity, Major General Ewert became Deputy Commanding General of the 1st Corps in Münster on July 1, 1978, and thus deputy to the then Commanding Generals, Lieutenant General Ferdinand von Senger and Etterlin, and most recently since October 1, 1979 of Lieutenant General Kurt von der Osten .

After his retirement he was involved as chairman of the German-South African Society. For his services he was awarded the Great Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany .
