Otto Uechtritz

Otto Uechtritz (born September 9, 1910 in Insterburg , East Prussia , † July 25, 1994 in Oldenburg (Oldenburg) ) was a German officer, most recently lieutenant general of the Bundeswehr , and manager of the Oldenburg landscape .

Life

Uechtritz attended the Mariengymnasium Jever from 1922 until his Abitur in 1930 , where he was noticed as an aggressive anti-Semite who tormented his Jewish classmates. In the same year he became a flag junior in the 2nd (Prussian) Infantry Regiment in Allenstein . He was later deployed in Rastenburg and Breslau , in the Second World War in 1939 during the attack on Poland , in 1940 in the western campaign and from 1941 on the eastern front . In 1939/40 he was trained as a general staff officer at the War Academy . Last chief of staff of the XIII. Army corps he was captured by the Americans. After his release he worked for a Mannheim daily newspaper from 1948 to 1956.

Uechtritz joined the Bundeswehr as a lieutenant colonel on February 1, 1956 . Until 1960 he worked in the command staff of the army . From October 1, 1960 to February 1, 1964, he commanded the 31st Panzer Grenadier Brigade in Oldenburg and then the 11th Panzer Grenadier Division there. His last position was from January 15, 1968 to September 30, 1970, commanding general of the Bundeswehr's 1st Corps . He was then retired.

From 1970 to 1975 he was a managing board member of the Oldenburg Foundation and from 1975 to 1981 managing director of its successor, the Oldenburg landscape . In 1981 he received their landscape medal and became their honorary member. As early as July 1969 he was honored with the Federal Cross of Merit with a Star .

On February 2, 1948, he married Ursula Boßelmann (born January 11, 1918 in Berlin) in Heidelberg , with whom he had a daughter and a son.
