Gerhard Wächter (born August 11, 1946 in Helmern ) is a German politician ( CDU ).

Life and work

After graduating from high school in 1966, Wächter did his military service from 1967 to 1968 and then completed a degree in economics at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster , which he completed in 1974 with a degree in economics. Then from 1975 to 1990 he headed the department for economic and social policy at the Catholic rural college "Anton Heinen" Hardehausen .

Gerhard Wächter is married and has two children.

Political party

Wächter joined the CDU in 1971 and has been on the board of the CDU district association in Paderborn since 1981 and on the board of the CDU district association in East Westphalia-Lippe since 1990 . From 1996 to 2000 he was chairman of the Ostwestfalen-Lippe district of the CDU Local Political Association (KPV) and from 2000 to 2006 he was chairman of the CDU district association in Paderborn.

MP

Wächter was a member of the Paderborn District Council from 1984 to 2002 and of the Bad Wünnenberg City Council from 1989 to 1990 . In the district council he was from 1997 to 2002 chairman of the CDU district parliamentary group.

From 1990 to 2002 he was a member of the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia , where he was deputy chairman of the transport committee from 1995 to 2000 and transport policy spokesman for the CDU parliamentary group from 2000 to 2002. From 1997 to 2002 Wächter was also a member of the CDU parliamentary group.

From 2002 to 2009 he was a member of the German Bundestag . Wächter did not run again in the 2009 federal election. His successor in the constituency is Carsten Linnemann .

Gerhard Wächter always entered the Bundestag as a directly elected member of the constituency of Paderborn . In the 2005 Bundestag election , he received 54.9% of the first votes . In contrast to his well-known predecessors Rainer Barzel and Friedhelm Ost and his successor Carsten Linnemann, Wächter was only a backbencher in the German Bundestag .
