Friedhelm Ost (born June 15, 1942 in Castrop-Rauxel ) is a German television journalist and politician ( CDU ).

Friedhelm Ost studied economics at the Universities of Freiburg and Cologne from 1961 to 1965 . He graduated with the degree of Dipl. Rer. pole. from. From 1966 to 1969 he was a research assistant at a major bank, then from 1969 to 1972 a consultant at the Association of German Banks . Between 1973 and 1985 he worked as a business editor, presenter and commentator at ZDF , where he joined the CDU in 1980. In 1985, Ost became State Secretary and Head of the Federal Government's Press and Information Office . After that, from 1989 to 1990, he worked as an economic policy advisor to the Federal Chancellor, as a freelance journalist and publicist. Until the end of 1990, Ost was the general manager of the mining industry association and general representative of Deutsche Vermögensberatung (DVAG). In addition, he was president of the “Airlift for Children with Respiratory Diseases in Germany” and a member of the Association of Catholic Entrepreneurs , as well as a member of the Academy of Natural Sciences Russia, Moscow, member of the Board of Governors of the University of Haifa (Israel) and chairman of the Krone Circle . Ost is a member of the CDU SME and Business Association and was a member of the German Bundestag from 1990 to 2002 . From 1991 to 1998 he was chairman of the Economic Committee. He is a member of the Association of Scientific Catholic Student Associations Unitas and Chairman of the Board of the Mid-Atlantik Club Bonn e. V.
Constituency
Friedhelm Ost's constituency was the Paderborn constituency , which had previously been the constituency of the former CDU party chairman Rainer Barzel from 1957 to 1976 . East was directly elected to the Bundestag in 1990 with 58.2% of the first votes, in 1994 he won the direct mandate again with 56.9% and in 1998 with 53.9% of the first votes. His successor in the Paderborn constituency was Gerhard Wächter .
