Peter Hausmann (born April 3, 1951 in Munich ) is a German journalist . From 1994 to 1998 he was the spokesman for the federal government and head of the Federal Press Office and from 2008 to 2014 editor-in-chief of Bayernkurier .

Peter Hausmann is the son of Fritz Hausmann . He is a member of the 12th teaching editorial team at the German School of Journalism (DJS). Hausmann was a participant in the first pilot project by DJS and Ludwig Maximilians University for journalist training. He then worked as a freelance journalist for, among others, Münchner Merkur and Bayerischer Rundfunk , where he got a permanent position as editor in 1982 . His thematic focus is economic and social policy.

In addition to his journalistic work, he received several teaching assignments on the subjects of interview techniques and radio journalism at the German School of Journalism in Munich, the Ludwig Maximilians University and the Catholic University of Eichstätt .

In 1988 Peter Hausmann became acting head of the radio business department at Bayerischer Rundfunk. After the death of Franz Josef Strauss at the end of 1988, he moved to the CSU as spokesman for the CSU chairman, Federal Finance Minister Theo Waigel . At the end of 1992 he returned to Bayerischer Rundfunk as head of the radio business department.

In 1994 Peter Hausmann became the spokesman for the federal government and head of the Federal Press Office under Chancellor Helmut Kohl . Until May 1998 he was a permanent state secretary member of the federal government in Bonn. On May 25, 1998 - around four months before the federal election  - Helmut Kohl put him into temporary retirement . According to media reports, he appeared to be a welcome pawn from the black and yellow government coalition , as the opinion polls for the Kohl government were bad. There had been criticism of his work from the Union parties . His suspension had been announced beforehand; Der Spiegel reported a month beforehand that Hausmann's portrait was "in the row of the alumni". When Hausmann found out about this, he ordered the picture to be removed again.

From 1998 to 2005 Peter Hausmann was a partner at the auditing, tax and management consultancy firm Deloitte & Touche , and in November 2005 he switched to the PR agency Pleon as a partner.

As the successor to Peter Schmalz , he was editor-in-chief of the weekly newspaper Bayernkurier published by the CSU from November 1, 2008 to October 31, 2014 .

Political party

Peter Hausmann is a board member of the Laim- West branch of the CSU and a member of the Union der Mitte initiative in Bavaria.
