Peter Schmalz (born July 26, 1943 in Würzburg ) is a German journalist .

Act

After graduating from high school and studying history and German in Würzburg , Schmalz volunteered at the Franconian Volksblatt , also in Würzburg. He then worked as an editor for the Bild newspaper in Stuttgart and the evening newspaper in Munich . In 1976 he became the political correspondent of the daily newspaper Die Welt in Bayern , based in Munich, in 1990 he moved to Berlin, where he set up a Germany department for Die Welt for the new countries . In 1994 he became chief reporter of the world and in the following years mainly toured the Asian area. In 1999 he went back to Munich as a political correspondent for southern Germany and prepared a Bayern edition of the world .

From March 2001 to October 2008 he was editor-in-chief of Bayernkurier . From November 2008 to June 2016 he was editor-in-chief of the magazine Der Peutinger , formerly the Bavarian Monthly Mirror , the magazine of the Peutinger Collegium in Munich. Since October 2016 he has been editor-in-chief of the PresseClub magazine of the Munich PressClub.

Schmalz has been a member of PresseClub München eV since 1988 , he was elected to the board in 2008, deputy chairman in 2010 and chairman in February 2016. In 2009 he was awarded the Bavarian Constitutional Medal in silver. He was awarded the Bavarian Order of Merit on December 17, 2014. He is married and has two children.
