Bernd Schütt (born March 18, 1961 in Neumünster ) is a lieutenant general in the army of the Bundeswehr . He has been Head of the Strategy and Operations Department at the Federal Ministry of Defense (BMVg) in Berlin since September 25, 2018 .

Military career

Training and first uses

After graduation bulk entered the service of the Bundeswehr and graduated as a reserve officer candidate , the officer training at the Armored Corps in the tank battalion 183/184 in Boostedt and Neumünster . From 1982 to 1985 he studied pedagogy at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Hamburg, where he graduated as a qualified pedagogue . During this time he was promoted to lieutenant on July 1, 1984 .

After graduating, he was transferred back to Boostedt to tank battalion 184, where he served as platoon leader from 1986 to 1988 . Here he was promoted to first lieutenant on January 14, 1987 . In 1988 Schütt was transferred to the local Panzerjäger Company 180 in Bad Segeberg , where he served as platoon leader for a year. Back in Boostedt in 1989 he took over the post of company commander of 4th  Company of Panzer Battalion 184. During this assignment, he was promoted to captain on January 12, 1990 .

In 1991 he was transferred to the staff of Panzer Brigade 18 in Neumünster , where he served as an officer for military intelligence (S 2) and as an operations and training officer ( S 3 ) until 1994 . On October 1, 1994, Schütt was finally promoted to major .

Service as a staff officer

From 1994 to 1996 Schütt completed the 37th National General Staff Course (LGAN) at the Command Academy of the German Armed Forces in Hamburg , where he was trained as an officer in the General Staff Service , and then served for three years, until 1999, as a planning staff officer (G 3) in the Army Command in Koblenz . In this position he was promoted to lieutenant colonel on January 1, 1998 .

In 1999 Schütt was transferred to Brussels , where he served until 2001 as a consultant on the staff of the German Military Representative of the Federal Republic of the NATO Military Committee under Lieutenant General Klaus Wiesmann and Klaus Olshausen . Back in Germany, Schütt took command of the 74th Panzer Battalion in Cuxhaven in 2001 and managed it until its dissolution in 2003. During this deployment , he completed a foreign assignment in Bosnia and Herzegovina as part of the SFOR and served in Mostar as the deputy operations officer (G3) of the French commanded Multinational Division South East .

On May 2, 2005, Schütt was promoted to colonel and was transferred to Neubrandenburg in the same year , where he served as Head of Training and Operations (G 3) on the staff of the 14th Panzer Grenadier Division under the command of Major General Günter Weiler and Bruno Kasdorf . During this time he completed another assignment abroad, this time in Afghanistan as part of the ISAF , where he served as commander of the Provincial Reconstruction Team in Faizabad .

2007 changed bulk finally the Federal Ministry of Defense, where he worked until 2009 in the second service based in Berlin Joint Staff of the Armed Forces as Head of Military Political bases for operations and training (Fo S III 6) under the direction of Deputy Chief of Staff Military Politics, Major General Manfred Lange , served. From 2009 to 2010 Schütt was then head of department for central tasks in the command staff of the Army (Fü H / Z) under the command of Major General Werner Freers at the first office in Bonn .

Service in the rank of general

On September 17, 2010, Schütt took over command of Armored Training Brigade 9 from Brigadier General Wilhelm Grün in Munster . In this post he was appointed Brigadier General on January 1, 2011. From January 13, 2012 to August 23, 2013 he was General of the Armored Forces and Commander of the Munster Training Center . Following this bulk was I from 2013 to 2014 Head of use in command army in Strausberg . With a promotion to major general , he became the last commander of Regional Command North of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Mazar-e-Sharif , Afghanistan, on February 13, 2014 . On August 7, 2014, he became commander of the Southern Division in Veitshöchheim , which was reclassified into 10th Panzer Division in January 2015 . He handed this over to his successor, Brigadier General Harald Gante, on September 11, 2018 .

On September 25, 2018, Schütt became the successor to Lieutenant General Dieter Warnecke , Head of Strategy and Operations at the BMVg. Associated with this was the promotion to lieutenant general.

Private

Schütt is married and has two children.
