Jürgen Theodor Weigt (born November 14, 1957 in Ochtendung ) is a Lieutenant General of the Army of the German Armed Forces , and the Deputy Inspector of the Armed Forces Base .

Military career

Training and first uses

In 1977 Weigt entered the service of the Bundeswehr as an officer candidate in the tank battalion 144 in Koblenz . From 1978 to 1982 he studied education at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Hamburg and graduated with a diploma . This was followed by a deployment of troops from 1982 to 1986 as a platoon leader with Panzerjägerkompanie 340 in Koblenz. After that he also served in Koblenz until 1989 as company commander of the 2nd company of Panzer Battalion 343. In 1989 he was transferred to the staff of the superior Panzer Brigade 34 and served there until 1990 as an intelligence officer ( S2 ).

Service as a staff officer

From 1990 to 1992 Weigt completed the 33rd Army General Staff Course at the Hamburg Command Academy and then served in 1994 as a consultant in the Army Command Staff (FüH VI 2) in the Federal Ministry of Defense in Bonn . From 1994 to 1996 there was another deployment of troops as an operations officer (G3) on the staff of Panzer Brigade 34 in Diez under the command of Colonel Kersten Lahl . Then he took over command of the 203 tank battalion in Hemer until 1998 .

After these troop deployments, he was again transferred to the Ministry of Defense in 1998 and served in Bonn as a consultant in the command staff of the armed forces (FüS VI 2) until 2000 . In 2000 he changed the department and served until 2002 as a consultant for personnel, social and central affairs (IV 4). In 2002 Weigt was transferred to Cologne and served there until 2004 as a personnel officer (G1) under the command of Major General Werner Widder and Jürgen Ruwe . In 2004 he moved back to the Ministry of Defense, where he took on the post of Head of Section in the Department of Personnel, Social and Central Affairs (I 4) until 2006.

Service as a general

He then took over as a colonel in the 21st Panzer Brigade in Augustdorf in 2006 . As a brigadier general, he was with the brigade on an international mission in Afghanistan as part of ISAF , where he took over the duties of German contingent leader and regional commander north from Dieter Dammjacob on July 9, 2008. He handed this position over to Brigadier General Jörg Vollmer on January 10, 2009 .

Since March 1, 2009, Weigt was employed as Deputy Chief of Staff Operations under the command of Lieutenant General Wolf-Dieter Langheld in the Ulm Command Operational Leadership . He handed this position over to Brigadier General Frank Leidenberger in September 2010 . Weigt then took over the post of Director Civil Military Synchronization at the ISAF headquarters in Afghanistan under the command of US General David H. Petraeus . From July 2011 to April 2013 he was in command of the Army Officers School in Dresden . From May 1, 2013 to May 31, 2016, he was in command of the Inner Guidance Center in Koblenz . He was succeeded in this post by Major General Reinhard Zudrop . Weigt himself succeeded Frank Leidenberger as Chief of Staff of the Resolute Support Mission in Kabul from July 11, 2016, while being promoted to Lieutenant General . On July 1, 2017, he handed over this post to Lieutenant General Johann Langenegger . Weigt was the commanding general of the Eurocorps in Strasbourg from September 7, 2017 to September 5, 2019 . On October 1, 2019, Weigt succeeded Lieutenant General Peter Bohrer as Deputy Inspector of the Armed Forces Base.
