Fritz von Korff
Fritz von Korff (born March 3, 1943 in Danzig ) is a German army officer and retired brigadier general . D. He lives today in Eutin (Schleswig-Holstein).
Military career
Fritz von Korff joined the Bundeswehr in 1964 and was promoted to lieutenant in 1966 after his officer training . From 1972 to 1975 he was company commander in Panzer Reconnaissance Battalion 2 in Hessisch Lichtenau . Subsequently, he was employed as a logistics officer (S4) in the same battalion until 1977 . Korff was then transferred to the division headquarters of the 4th Panzer Grenadier Division in Regensburg , where he served as an operations officer from 1977 to 1979 (S3). From 1979 to 1981 he was the company commander of the 1st company of the Mountain Armored Reconnaissance Battalion 8 in Freyung , before he took over the post of S3 staff officer and deputy battalion commander until 1983.
From 1983 to 1985 he was employed as S3 staff officer Executive Officer of the Commanding General of the 7th US Army / Commanding General of the Central Army Group (CENTAG), General Glenn K. Otis in Heidelberg . Korff was then from May 30, 1985 to April 6, 1989 in command of the 6th Panzer Reconnaissance Battalion in Eutin . In 1989 he was employed as head of the military intelligence department (G2) on the staff of the 6th Panzer Grenadier Division in Neumünster.
In 1990 Korff was transferred to the Office for Studies and Exercises of the Bundeswehr in Bergisch Gladbach . Here he served as G2 and then as head of the practice department under the head of the Flotilla Admiral Elmar Schmähling . In the same year he was transferred to a post in Section III / 1 "Military Policy and Arms Control" of the headquarters of the armed forces in the Federal Ministry of Defense in Bonn .
After the integration of the National People's Army of the GDR into the Bundeswehr, Korff was transferred to Strausberg , where he served as department head G3 and G2 of the Bundeswehr Command East under Lieutenant General Jörg Schönbohm . From 1991 to 1993 he was department head G2 in the staff of the Military District Command VIII in Neubrandenburg . From 1993 he was deputy commander of Panzergrenadierbrigade 40 and VBK 86 in Schwerin for three years .
On July 26, 1996, he took over as commander of the 12th Panzer Brigade in Amberg and led it until 1999. On March 24, 1999, he was appointed brigadier general and from March to August 1999 he was commander of the multinational south brigade of KFOR in Serbia ( Kosovo province ). Subsequently, until his retirement in April 2004, he was commander of the army officers' school in Dresden .
Fritz von Korff is married and has a daughter and a son.
