Christian Westphal

Christian Gunther Erich Westphal (born July 10, 1953 in Werneuchen ) is a retired Brigadier General . D. of the Army of the German Armed Forces and was in command of the Army Officers School in Dresden until his retirement in the summer of 2015 .

Military career

Training and first uses

Westphal joined the 2nd / Panzer Grenadier Battalion 243 in 1973 as a Panzer Grenadier , which he has remained to this day . From 1974 to 1978 he studied education at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Hamburg . He then returned to the troops and was a platoon leader in the 72nd Panzer Grenadier Battalion in Hamburg-Fischbek for two years . From 1980 to 1985 he was company commander of the 71st Panzer Grenadier Battalion at the same location .

General staff training and service as a staff officer

Westphal went through the German general staff training at the command academy of the Bundeswehr in Hamburg from 1985 to 1987 and was then deployed as G4 of Panzerlehrbrigade 9 in Munster (Örtze) . This was followed by participation in the Argentine general staff training from 1990 to 1991. Back in Germany, Westphal was again employed in a brigade staff , this time as G3 of Panzergrenadierbrigade 1 in Hildesheim . In 1993 he took over the 421 Panzer Grenadier Battalion in Brandenburg an der Havel as commander. Two years later he moved to Bonn as a consultant in the command staff of the army . From 1996 to 1998 he was press officer of the Inspector of the Army and from 1998 his adjutant for a year . In 1999 Westphal became a group leader in the Army Office in Cologne before he was reassigned to the Army Command in 2002, this time as Head of Division. In 2004 he began working as a liaison officer for the Federal President in Berlin .

General uses

In 2007, Westphal took over his first general post as commander of the Berlin site command . From October 1, 2009 to the end of April 2012, he was Department Head I (Army Development) in the Army Office . Since May 2012 Christian Westphal was the change management officer at the Army Inspector in Bonn. As part of the reorganization of the Bundeswehr Westphal changed on October 1, 2012, its task to command the army .

From May 1, 2013 until his retirement in the summer of 2015, Westphal was commander of the Army Officers' School in Dresden .

Orders and awards

Westphal has been awarded the Bundeswehr Cross of Honor in gold.

Private

Westphal is married and has one child.
