Neugraben-Fischbek ( Low German : Neegroben-Fischbeek ) is the most southwestern part of Hamburg . It belongs to the Harburg district .
geography
Neugraben-Fischbek borders in the northwest on the Neuenfelde district , in the northeast on Francop , in the east on Hausbruch and in the other directions on the district of Harburg . South of the Waldfrieden settlement is the Hasselbrack ( 116.1 m above sea level ), the highest point in Hamburg.
history
Fischbek is first mentioned in 1544 as Vischbecke ; it takes its name from a small stream with a rich fish population. The village of Neugraben (emphasis on the second syllable) emerged as Niegraben around 1510 and was first shown on a map in 1577. The "new ditch", commissioned by Duke Otto I. von Harburg, was to drain the landscape and serve as a canal for barges and peat barges. It passed into the Falkenbek and bounded the Duchy of Harburg to the west. The border then continued through the Harburg Mountains over the Moisburger Stein . In the west, the Duchy of Braunschweig-Lüneburg joined with the Moisburg office . The Falkenbek is now called Scheidebach and until 1937 divided Neugraben into a Harburg and a Moisburg part, which together with Fischbek, Wulmstorf and Ketzendorf belonged to Elstorf ecclesiastically and Moisburg politically.
Incorporations
Neugraben, which lies in the east of the district and borders Hausbruch, and Fischbek, which lies further west, were independent communities in the Prussian district of Harburg until 1937 , which were only incorporated into Hamburg through the Greater Hamburg Act . There are therefore two historic town centers.
Officers camp
From May 1941 to May 1945 the Oflag XD for prisoners of war of the Wehrmacht was located in Fischbek .
Concentration camp subcamps
From September 13, 1944 to 1945, a satellite camp of the Neuengamme concentration camp was located in Neugraben . 500 Czech Jewish women were held prisoner on Falkenbergsweg. They came from the Auschwitz-Birkenau extermination camp and were used to build the Falkenberg settlement.
Population development
Contrary to the Hamburg trend, the number of inhabitants declined from the turn of the millennium to 2010, but has been increasing again since then.

Infrastructure
IBA projects "Living close to nature"
The IBA Hamburg initiated and oversees several construction projects in Neugraben-Fischbek; IBA Hamburg has been commissioned by the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg to develop, develop and market the areas. From the point of view of IBA Hamburg, the district is ideal for “nature-loving living” thanks to its peripheral location and proximity to local recreation and nature conservation areas such as the Harburg mountains and the moor. The three new development areas Vogelkamp Neugraben (development plan Neugraben-Fischbek 65), Fischbeker Heidbrook (Neugraben-Fischbek 66) and Fischbeker Reethen (Neugraben-Fischbek 67) are being developed and marketed under the umbrella brand “nature-loving living”.
The residential area "Vogelkamp Neugraben" is being built between the Neugraben S-Bahn station and the EU bird sanctuary Moorgürtel on the basis of the Neugraben-Fischbek 65 development plan. In 2013, the IBA Hamburg took over the development of the other three construction phases after the first construction phase had largely been marketed. A total of around 1,500 residential units are being built in a mix of single-family, terraced and semi-detached houses as well as small-scale multi-family houses.
In 2014, construction of the “Fischbeker Heidbrook” residential area began on the 54 hectare site of the former Röttiger barracks . The residential area should include around 1,200 residential units.
In May 2016 the third residential area with the name "Fischbeker Reethen" was presented. Around 2,000 apartments in a mixture of terraced, single and multi-family houses are to be built on 70 hectares. The Dutch urban planner Kees Christiaanse won the urban and landscape planning competition . Commercial halls are planned as noise protection structures on the S-Bahn line.
With the development of the areas, a new community center was built with a direct connection to the Neugraben S-Bahn station. The BGZ Süderelbe (education and community center Süderelbe) includes a primary school (former Quellmoor primary school), a day-care center (former Cux 400) and a fitness center (Fit Hus). The BGZ also includes the CU-Arena , home ground of the volleyball team VT Hamburg of the TV Fischbeks.
RISE funding
Since 2007, the district has been funded several times by the urban planning "Framework Program Integrated Urban Development". The area “Zentrum Neugraben / Bahnhofssiedlung / Petershofsiedlung” was included in the “Integrated District Development” program in 2007. Project support has been based at steg Hamburg since July 2009. In February 2017, the Senate announced that it would be funding the construction of a residential area for 12,000 people in Neugraben-Fischbek with 1.8 million euros.
The aim of the district development is to achieve a stabilization and upgrading of the area with the help of an integrated development concept, based on the multitude of potentials. The area of Zentrum Neugraben / Bahnhofssiedlung / Petershofsiedlung is intended to establish itself as a sought-after residential location and as an attractive supply center with a contemporary, differentiated range of goods and services.
Rents and real estate prices are in the lower range compared to the Hamburg average, but there are large differences within the district depending on the location.

traffic
The federal road 73 goes through Neugraben. It is about 3 km to the federal motorway 7 . The construction of the A 26 north of Neugraben-Fischbek is planned.
Neugraben has been on the railway line from Hamburg-Harburg to Cuxhaven ( Niederelbebahn ) since November 11, 1881 , which has been operated by the metronom railway company since December 8, 2007 . The station was initially simply called Neugraben before it was renamed Hamburg-Neugraben on April 1, 1938 as a result of the Greater Hamburg Act . Since 1984 the lines S3 and S31 of the S-Bahn Hamburg ended at Neugrabener Bahnhof . The station was completely rebuilt for the S-Bahn connection. From here the railways and transport companies Elbe-Weser operated a connection to Bremerhaven . With the winter timetable change in 2007, the S-Bahn will continue to travel to Stade with convertible dual-current trains. The new Fischbek stop was set up for this purpose . With the extension of the S-Bahn, regional train traffic in Neugraben was discontinued, the platform used for this purpose with tracks 4 and 5 was closed.

Established businesses
The Süderelbe weekly market takes place three days a week, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Many other shops and two large supermarkets are also available. There are also two hotels nearby, the “Deutsche Haus” and the “Scheideholzer Hof”.
At the northern end of the pedestrian zone, the Süderelbe shopping center is located in 2 building complexes south and north of the B73 . It was built at the beginning of the 1980s together with a new S-Bahn station and a renewed bus transfer facility and opened in October 1981. In both complexes, it forms a structural unit with apartment buildings. The "SEZ" has 2 floors with shops and underground parking in both halves. A bridge over the federal highway 73 connects the southern with the northern part of the center. The shopping center's infrastructure includes shops for everyday needs and a furniture store, but also a daycare center and rooms for several clubs. However, some shops, especially those on the upper floor, are empty and the entire building is becoming increasingly decayed. A Kaufland branch has been located in the expanded former Karstadt building, which was completely gutted after it was closed . The resulting reopening and expansion created more parking spaces. A flat escalator makes it possible to reach the parking level with shopping carts. This was placed in a glass extension in front of the house. The animal research laboratory LPT is based in Hamburg-Neugraben.
The German Post AG operates in Neugraben one of its 82 mail centers in Germany.
Fire safety, health and safety
The rescue service and fire protection are mainly carried out by the Süderelbe fire and rescue station in Hausbruch.
There are two volunteer fire brigades in Neugraben-Fischbek , the Neugraben volunteer fire brigade and the Fischbek volunteer fire brigade . These two fire brigades went out 113 times to provide fires and assistance. Their tasks primarily include fire protection, technical assistance and disaster control; smaller assignments are processed independently.
The closest hospital with basic and standard care is the Mariahilf hospital in the Heimfeld district, which is part of Helios Kliniken GmbH .
Police commissioner 47 (PK 47 for short) of the Hamburg police force is located in the heart of Neugraben, on the market square. The police station covers the districts of Neugraben-Fischbek, Hausbruch, Francop, Moorburg, Finkenwerder (with a branch), Neuenfelde, Cranz and parts of the port, and the patrol cars go to Lower Saxony to support the smaller police stations there.
Educational institutions
In Neugraben there is the Neugraben primary school (formerly (elementary) school Neugraben - with over 340 years one of the oldest schools in Hamburg), the Fischbek-Falkenberg district school, the Am Johannisland primary school, the Schnuckendrift primary school, the Neugraben Catholic school, the district school Süderelbe, the Frida-Stoppenbrink-Förderschule (housed in the “old school Neugraben”), the primary school Ohrnsweg and the grammar school Süderelbe .
Offices
The former Süderelbe town hall is located in the pedestrian zone in the center of Neugraben. Since the administrative reform in 2007, the Süderelbe local office no longer exists in its original function and the local office manager has been replaced by the Süderelbe regional officer.
Röttiger barracks and Fischbeker Heide training area
The Panzer Kaserne Fischbek was built for the German Wehrmacht in 1937–1944 . After the end of the war, the British Army took over the site - after they moved away, it was used by the Hamburg Social Services from April 1948. The barracks were taken over by the Bundeswehr in 1959 as part of the establishment of the Bundeswehr and expanded into the largest barracks area in Hamburg. In 2005 the barracks were finally closed as part of the downsizing of the Bundeswehr.
IBA Hamburg has been developing the “Fischbeker Heidbrook” residential area on the former barracks site since 2013.
In addition to a nature reserve, a forest settlement with around 60 residential units is to be built on the former Fischbeker Heide training site , which is located in the Neu Wulmstorf area.
Culture and sights
Fischbek also includes the Fischbeker Heide nature reserve , the second largest heath in Germany after the Lüneburg Heath . In it is the Fischbektal, the bed of the dried up river Fischbek, which dried up due to the extraction of drinking water around 1930, and the archaeological hiking trail in the Fischbeker Heide . It was presented to the public by the Helms Museum in 1975. It comprises the largest closed group of monuments visible above ground in Hamburg. On the hiking trail, which was restored in 2002, soil monuments that were created from the Neolithic to the Iron Age are explained at 11 stations on display boards.
In the north of Fischbek lies the Moorgürtel nature reserve , a swampy foothills of the Old Country , one of the last retreats for the endangered corncrake . It is an EU bird sanctuary. The planned motorway A 26, which has been controversial for years, is to lead through this area .
