Railway stations in Lower Saxony |
The Buxtehude station is in the Lower Saxon town of Buxtehude situated terminal station . It lies on the Hamburg – Cuxhaven railway (Niederelbebahn) and is the end point of the route from Bremerhaven .
history
When the Niederelbebahn opened in 1881 , Buxtehude was given a station on the line from Hamburg to Stade . A short time later this was extended from Stade to Cuxhaven .
In 1928 Buxtehude received a connection to Harsefeld , which was operated by the Buxtehude-Harsefelder Eisenbahn (BHE). For this purpose, the Buxtehude Süd station was built in the south of the state station . He had his own massive two-story station building in clinker construction with a hipped roof with an attached one-story goods shed, but only a single head track. Transfer, parking and transfer tracks of the BHE were to the west. The connection to the state railway was made by a western leading track. A connection to the Birkel works was also served by the BHE.
For the transition of passenger trains on the line, which is now part of the EVB , a new, direct entry into the Buxtehude station was built from 1992 to 1993. The tracks at the Kleinbahnhof were abandoned, only the storage group remained. Passenger trains could stop directly at platform 3 of the central platform and run to and from Hamburg-Harburg.
For the start of the S-Bahn service in 2007 on the line to Stade, the station was significantly rebuilt. Freight tracks and most of the sidings have been removed. The remaining tracks of the small station were also removed. The bus station is now on the site of the passenger station, and the area of the sidings has become parking spaces.
Investments
The station building in the north has a covered house platform (platform 1) on which the trains run towards Stade.
There is also a partially covered island platform that can be reached via a tunnel. Track 2 runs on its north side, where trains stop in the direction of Harburg. The track on the south side of the island platform is divided. To the west is a head track for the trains from Bremerhaven (track 4), to the east a head track for the S-Bahn (track 3). There is barrier-free access to the platform between the two tracks. In the west of the station there is still a siding between the lines to Stade and Bremerhaven.
Signal boxes
Originally there were three mechanical signal boxes, one of which was shut down in 1960. 1987 were prepared by a switchboard replaced the design MC L84. Today this signal box from Hamburg-Neugraben is remote controlled.
Transport links
With the timetable change in 2007, the Metronom Eisenbahngesellschaft took over the Hamburg – Cuxhaven route from Deutsche Bahn and has served it every hour since then. With the expansion of Hamburg's S-Bahn line 3 to Stade , Buxtehude was also connected to the S-Bahn network that previously ended in Neugraben . Because of this, EVB trains have ended in Buxtehude since 2007 instead of in Neugraben as before.
