Bremerhaven Hauptbahnhof (formerly Wesermünde Hauptbahnhof or Geestemünde Hauptbahnhof ) is the name of the most important train station in the city of Bremerhaven in the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen . The station building has been a listed building since 2012.

Location and concept

The Bremerhaven main station is located about two kilometers southeast of the city center and is designed as a through station. It has four platform tracks, which are surrounded on both sides by freight tracks.

In 1914, the Bremerhaven main station replaced the old Geestemünder station from 1862, which was located on today's Klußmannstrasse. From it there are routes going south to Bremen or Bremervörde and Hamburg (separation of the routes in Bremerhaven-Wulsdorf), to the north in the direction of Cuxhaven , to Columbuskaje and to the museum railway to Bad Bederkesa (separation of the routes in Bremerhaven-Speckenbüttel).

A partial renovation of the station building as well as the renewal of the platforms and platform roofs including the installation of elevators was planned for 2008 and started at the end of 2009. Deutsche Bahn AG , the state of Bremen and the city of Bremerhaven have invested around 8.2 million euros in this. A complete renovation of the reception hall was not initially planned for cost reasons, but was also implemented after the Deutsche Bahn's share was increased to EUR 800,000 and the City of Bremerhaven also made a contribution of EUR 600,000.

In autumn 2011, the completely renovated main station was ceremoniously handed over to the Bremerhaven population.

This is operated by the Nordwestbahn and usually offers an hourly service, in the morning and in the afternoon a reinforcement trip is offered. The first S-Bahn trains leave Bremerhaven Central Station at 4:30 a.m. (on Sundays at 6:30 a.m.), the last train in the direction of Bremen arrives at 11:30 p.m.

LINT-41 multiple units of the North Sea Railway operate on the Bremerhaven – Cuxhaven line , while the route in the direction of Bremervörde and Hamburg is owned by EVB , which also uses various diesel multiple units .
