The railway Bremerhaven-Bederkesa is a railway line of the track width 1435 mm ( standard gauge ) in Lower Saxony and Bremen .

Route

The railway line branches off at Bremerhaven- Speckenbüttel (line kilometers 191.9) from the DB AG line Bremerhaven-Cuxhaven ( KBS 125). This is followed by the stations Langen , Debstedt , Knüppelholz (near the abandoned forest hospital in Drangstedt), Drangstedt and Bad Bederkesa . The route is 17.6 km in total. Since the merger of the municipalities of Langen and Bederkesa to form the city of Geestland , the route, with the exception of the first approx. 250 m in Bremerhaven and 1.7 km in the area of Wehden , has largely been in the city area.

history

In connection with the construction of the Bremerhaven – Cuxhaven railway line , Bederkesa was also connected to the railway network. Operations officially began on June 1, 1896, with four pairs of trains between Geestemünde (now Bremerhaven) and Bederkesa. The intermediate stations Langen, Debstedt and Drangstedt received small single-storey service buildings that are similar to those on the Cuxhaven route, or are partially identical. Langen also received a waiting hall that was later converted into a goods shed.

Later, additional breakpoints were set up in Langen-Seepark (no longer available) and in Knüppelholz (to connect the alternative hospital established there in 1942).

Further extensions of the route via Lamstedt to the Niederelbebahn , as well as a connection from Bremervörde via Bederkesa to Cuxhaven were discussed until the 1920s, but never realized.

The last passenger service, which was only served by a pair of trains, was discontinued on May 24, 1968 and replaced by a bus line operated by KVG Stade . Freight traffic was stopped on December 31, 1993.

As a museum train

In March 1990, the Museum Railway Bremerhaven - Bederkesa eV was founded on the initiative of the then joint municipality director Wilfried habenicht from Bederkesa and some railroad fans from Bremerhaven . He has made it his business to recreate the railway traffic of the 1950s on the route now listed with the timetable number 12128.

The museum railway trains come from Bederkesa via Lehe, Hauptbahnhof and Wulsdorf on the Bremen – Bremerhaven line to the “ Schaufenster Fischereihafen ” museum railway station .

After the line was closed, the association was able to purchase it from DB AG in the mid-1990s for DM 75,000 . For the 100th anniversary of the route, the association organized shuttle trips between Bederkesa and Drangstedt for the first time with a railcar of the railways and transport company Elbe-Weser (EVB). Official operation started in October 2000 with the club's own V 36 134 . In the first few years the trains ran between Bremerhaven Central Station and Bederkesa on two Sundays a month. After renovation work in the Bremerhaven fishing port, the museum railroad's trains run three times on the days of travel from Bederkesa to Bremerhaven-Fischereihafen, only the first train goes to Bremerhaven main station.

All vehicles were initially parked in the round engine shed in Bremerhaven-Lehe. After the association with its two locomotives (V 36 134 and Köf II ) had to leave the DB AG locomotive shed, a new vehicle hall was built in Bederkesa, the construction was subsidized with EU funds. The new hall was officially handed over to the association in 2007 by the Minister for Economic Affairs, Walter Hirche .

The locomotive V 36 134 had to be parked in December 2004 at Dorum station (Cuxhaven – Bremerhaven route) due to an engine failure. The 2005 driving season started with a V 100 from EVB, after which the V 36 412 from Lengerich was used in the 2005 driving season. Since 2006 the trains of the museum railway have each been hauled by a V 100 from the Elbe-Weser transport company EVB from Bremervörde. A reconditioning of the V 36 134 and the V 36 276 is no longer planned for financial reasons, they are both parked in Bederkesa.

At the end of the season in September 2007, the rail bus set of the Ammerland-Saterland museum railway was used on two days of travel . In May 2008 the Romanian steam locomotive 131,060 made its first appearance in Bederkesa and hauled some trains. In the winter of 2008/2009 the steam locomotive was parked in Bederkesa, and in the winter of 2009/2010 the steam locomotive was again a guest in Bederkesa. In 2010 the steam locomotive was used less often. Only at the beginning of the season and for the Santa Claus rides on December 4th and 5th, 2010, she hauled the trains of the museum railway. On December 6, 2010, there was a serious accident with the steam locomotive 131,060 in the industrial park in Bad Bederkesa. A minibus was hit by a locomotive while crossing a level crossing. The car was dragged around 100 meters from the train. The driver of the car was trapped in his vehicle and could be freed from the wreck by the volunteer fire brigade and emergency doctors after about an hour .

At the end of December 2009, the museum railroad bought the V 65 02 diesel locomotive . The V 65 02 was built by MAK in Kiel in 1962 and was in use for the Ilmebahn until 1996 . In 2001 the locomotive came to the German Regional Railway (DRE), where it received a new general inspection. However, the German regional railway (DRE) never used the locomotive, so that it stood the entire time. Between January 8 and 10, 2010, the V 65 was transferred from Klostermansfeld to Bederkesa with new deadlines . It is also labeled with the number V 65 02 on the museum railway in Bederkesa and has hauled the trains since the 2010 season.

Vehicle use

No specific vehicle operations are known from the early days of the route. All trains were driven as passenger trains with goods transport, and hauled by various steam locomotives from the Geestemünde depot. Since around 1950, a push-pull train set with a V 36 from the Bremen main station was used for passenger transport . In the last few years of passenger train traffic, rail buses were also used on the route.

As a museum train

According to the thematic framework of the museum operation "A North German branch line at the end of the 1950s", the association's vehicle fleet consists of:
