The Ilmebahn is a regional transport company based in Einbeck with the legal form of a GmbH .

history

After several advances by the city of Einbeck, the Braunschweigische Eisenbahngesellschaft , which had emerged from the Braunschweigische Staatsbahn , was instructed by the Prussian state to build a railway line between Salzderhelden on the Hanoverian southern railway and the city of Einbeck. In 1879 the 4.6 km long route was put into operation. Since there was interest in extending this route into the Solling, but the state had no interest in it, the Ilmebahn AG was founded in Dassel and entered in the commercial register on October 25, 1882. On December 20, 1883, the railway between the state train station Einbeck Mitte and Dassel began. The management was successively with the Braunschweigische Eisenbahngesellschaft , with the Prussian State Railway (Railway Directorate Hanover) and with the Deutsche Reichsbahn (Railway Directorate Cassel). In 1924 the company took over management and bought its own vehicles. In 1949, regular bus services began. In 1954, the Deutsche Bundesbahn took over all transport services on the Salzderhelden - Einbeck route. The Einbeck – Dassel rail passenger service was discontinued in 1975, Salzderhelden – Einbeck in 1984. In 1982, the service of the Einbeck (formerly Salzderhelden) - Einbeck Mitte (formerly Einbeck) line was returned to the DB and in 1992 it was taken over again. In 1994 the legal form of the Ilmebahn was changed from an AG to a GmbH .

There is an exhibition on the history of this railway in the blank forge in Neimke .

Infrastructure

As a railway infrastructure company (EIU), the Ilmebahn owns the single-track line Einbeck-Salzderhelden - Juliusmühle, on which it carries out freight traffic . The section Salzderhelden - Einbeck Mitte was leased from DB AG in 1999 and bought in 2005. The Dassel - Markoldendorf section was closed in 2002 and the subsequent Juliusmühle - Markoldendorf section in 2004. The line is currently operated as far as Sachsenbreite, where the line ends at a buffer stop. The section to Juliusmühle was tendered for takeover by other EIUs in 2011. The workshop and the depot are located in Einbeck. There used to be a two-room engine shed in Dassel. In the spring of 2016, a breakpoint was built at Einbeck PS.Speicher that is used for tourist purposes. The platform is 38 centimeters high.

For the resumption of local passenger traffic, the line received electronic interlocking technology and new level crossing safety systems. A new platform with a height of 55 centimeters was built in Einbeck Mitte .

As a railway company (EVU), Ilmebahn GmbH works for DB Cargo and provides shunting services at various train stations in the area ( Kreiensen , Bad Gandersheim , Stadtoldendorf , Holzminden , Northeim, etc.).

Furthermore, it operates the city and school bus services as well as several regional bus lines of the public transport in the area of the former district Einbeck and partly beyond in the Verkehrsverbund Süd-Niedersachsen (VSN, since 1999).

Ilmebahn GmbH is a member of the collective bargaining association of federal and non-federal railways in Germany (TBNE).

Since the line was modernized, journeys with the historic "Ilmeblitz" railcar can no longer take place due to the lack of equipment with point train control (PZB) .

reactivation

Efforts were made in the 2000s to resume local rail passenger transport on the Einbeck-Salzderhelden - Einbeck Mitte section . This section is one of the three routes in Lower Saxony whose reactivation in 2015, according to the expert opinion, would generate significant economic benefits.

In January 2016, a financing agreement was signed between the state of Lower Saxony and Ilmebahn GmbH, which provides for the reactivation of the line between Einbeck-Salzderhelden and Einbeck Mitte. The trains are then to connect downtown Einbeck with the Salzderhelden train station , where there is a connection to Göttingen and Hanover , in four minutes . Hourly service is planned, with direct trains running to Göttingen during rush hour. The cost of setting up the infrastructure amounts to eight million euros.

The operating services were awarded directly to DB Regio until December 2029. The services will be integrated into the diesel network of southeast Lower Saxony, in which Alstom Coradia LINT vehicles are used. According to an expert opinion, the Einbeck Mitte - Einbeck-Salzderhelden route has long-term potential for 600 passengers, 350 of whom are new customers. The parallel Regiobus operation was omitted for this. In January 2017, the financing agreement was concluded with the state of Lower Saxony. Commissioning was planned for December 2017. In August 2017, the restoration of the Ilmebrücke in accordance with the requirements of listed buildings began. Irreparable damage to the steel structure was found, which made it necessary to rebuild the bridge. As a result, the restart could only take place with a one-year delay to the timetable change in December 2018. Replacement new buildings were planned for the Leine and Leine flood bridges from the start.

In July 2019 it was announced that the newly created local rail transport will be used by around 340 passengers a day. With the timetable change in December 2019, a new stop on Otto-Hahn-Straße in Einbeck was put into operation. There are also plans to connect the shuttle trains to the PS.Speicher stop. At the current end of the Sachsenbreite route, another stop and a loading point for goods traffic are to be created. A cycle path is to be built on the former Sachsenbreite – Juliusmühle route.

vehicles

Former state railway locomotives were initially used, followed by three Prussian T 3s from 1924 . In 1934/5 they were replaced by two Prussian T 9.3s . In 1948 a Prussian T 10 was added. Between 1955 and 1962 the steam locomotive operation was switched to diesel operation. For this purpose, new locomotives, a MaK 600 D (V 601) and a MaK 650 D (V 65.02), were procured for the first time.
