building

The museum building is constructed in the style of a two-storey central German cross-floor house . The Spüligbach flows through it.

The blank forge is a clad half-timbered house , the roof of which is covered with sandstone slabs. It is practically used purely as a museum. In individual cases it is used for events organized by the local association that runs the museum. It serves as a depot for some outsourced individual items for the town's archives.

history

In 1727, a forge was put into operation at this location on the eastern edge of the town center of Dassel . The square was outside the city wall until it was partially dismantled in the following century. The building was later expanded to include the residential wing. Up until 1985, the Neimke family lived and worked here for eight generations, whose everyday culture documents their household effects as an authentic part of the collection. In 1988 a support association was founded. The museum was opened in 1993. In 2012, exhibits on the history of the Ilmebahn, founded 130 years earlier in Dassel, were included in the museum.

Exhibitions

The museum has three main themes.

  • With the historical water wheel , energy is obtained from the Spüligbach. The energy is transmitted to the scythe hammer and grinding device by means of transmission .
  • The blacksmith was a sideline smallholder in the same building . The agricultural equipment and tools give in combination with the stable , kitchen and sleeping quarters for servant and family an impressive insight into the life and economy of small farmers of the last centuries.
  • The terminal station of the Ilmebahn existed around 100 m east of the forge until 2002. This is shown in a model alongside other documents from the regional railway history.

The original interior of the building is designed as a permanent exhibition.
