The Krumme Wasser is about five kilometers long, left tributary of the Ilme near Einbeck in southern Lower Saxony .

Confluence of the Stroiter Bach and Hillebach to the Krummen Wasser
Viaduct of the federal highway 3 over the Krumme Wasser

The stream is created in the erosion area of the Kuventhal valley basin as the confluence of Hillebach and Stroiter Bach. Nearby it is also fed by the confluence of other small streams. In Kuventhal itself it flows under the bridge of federal highway 3 and initially about a kilometer in a southerly direction. As far as the confluence with the Ilme, south of the city of Einbeck, it then continues, partly piped, in a south-easterly direction.

In the Middle Ages the Krumme Wasser hindered the installation and expansion of the city of Einbeck. While the St. Alexandri monastery was located north of the brook floodplain , which narrowed here to about 200 m , the medieval bourgeois settlement with the market square was built on the southern bank. At the latest with the construction of the city wall in the 13th century, the Krumme Wasser will be diverted south around the city. Only a canalized city stream still flowed through the area, which was filled with layers of manure, clay and rubbish by up to one meter for building purposes. At the Diekturm, in the southwest of the fortification, the mill canal flows into the city in a medieval building at a height of 2 m over the Krumme Wasser.

Nature conservation associations are planning to renature part of the Krummen water floodplain by acquiring land in order to allow a dynamic development process. Intensively used areas are to be converted into succession areas and extensive grassland.

The Krumme Wasser is used by the local fishing club. In April 2001 broodlings were also placed in the Krumme Wasser to reintroduce the Leine salmon .

A cycling and hiking trail leads along the Krummen Wasser.
