The Hamburg-Hammerbrook station was built when the Harburg S-Bahn was built in 1983. In timetables, the station is also referred to as Hammerbrook (City Süd) after the nearby City Süd . The stop, which is assigned to station category 4, has a central platform and stands on a viaduct. The roof, which is closed on the sides, is modeled on a fast moving train and was built from 1978 to 1983 according to plans by the architects Schramm , Pempelfort , von Bassewitz and Hupertz. The station is served by the S 3 and S 31 lines.
architecture
The design of the station and the viaduct was the result of a competition in 1976. In the winning design of the architectural community, the soundproofing walls in the area of the stop were clad with significant red aluminum sheet, provided with windows and raised so that the wagon shape resulted. The construction took place from 1978 to 1983. In 1986 the station received an award from the Hamburg building authorities, including the viaduct. The exits were expressly excluded because they were criticized for being user-unfriendly - there was a lack of daylight and escalators. Hammerbrook (City Süd) station is the only elevated station in the Hamburg S-Bahn network.
On the Norderkai-Ufer, the station structure and the S-Bahn viaduct were built on the former site of the Protestant Church of St. Anne , which was inaugurated in 1901 and - with most of the Hammerbrook development at that time - destroyed in the Second World War .
